Yup. Love seeing Denzel out of his typical character; any actor to be honest. This role gets downgraded because people didn't like seeing Denzel in such a vulnerable role, but I thought it was magnificent. Denzel always plays Denzel, which is great for what it is, but roles like this, Fences, hell even Training Day, test how much range he truly has. Which a lot of times is the only criticism you can have for him.

I gave Denzel credit and said there's nothing else you can ding him on other than he plays the same archetype often; the dude who has infallible, unshakable integrity in a lot of roles. You can't deny that if we list up his roles from late 80's onwards. 90% of them will have the same archetype.

Flight was different. As well as a handful of other roles.

The sounds of the cameras flashing was the realest thing about this scene to me. Notice how the intensity of the clicks increase the more powerful his statements are and how they echo throughout the room....feels kinda like loniless and how he must feel with all eyes on him.
