Watched that a year ago the first time, understood the hype. I wasn't expecting it to be a dark movie.

I gave Denzel credit and said there's nothing else you can ding him on other than he plays the same archetype often; the dude who has infallible, unshakable integrity in a lot of roles. You can't deny that if we list up his roles from late 80's onwards. 90% of them will have the same archetype.

Flight was different. As well as a handful of other roles.

He has range but he's paying the bills too. Glory, Richochet, and Flight aren't anything like his other roles

Fences, American Gangster, Philadelphia, and maybe one or two others. They fronted on him for a lot of years. He was nominated for Fences.
