Das Efx and shyt like that, yeah. But let's not act like that was all of them. I love 80s and 90/ hip hop but I could also see why the younger gen doesn't. A lot of it isn't as charismatic MUSICALLY. To them they probably think it's just a basic beat and boring rapping.

What you think is going on now? Rappers are prospering solely off their charisma, cadences and flow :stopitslime:

your point is interesting cus i feel like i hear some of these new cats and it sounds like boring sing/mumblerapping over an extremely 808(but non-interesting) heavy beat. i love 808s so sometimes ill give stuff a pass, but alot of the bars from some of these kids is so simple, combined with a simplistic flow, id be just as happy listening to the instrumental of their records.

another example, alot of us older cats hate on migos, but even if they dont have the heaviest punchlines, they are really just goin for it over the production theyre given. after hearing that joint they did with alchemist, a whole migos x al project could be :gladbron:

thug is still a wayne clone but has worked to set himself apart with his sound. maybe vert gotta take some time and do the same, but hes getting such a buzz right now from whatever he's doing, im sure him and his camp will apply the 'if it aint broke, dont fix it' way of thinking, which makes sense from a business standpoint.

when i hear vert, i feel the same way you and i would assume they feel, when listening to some old shyt. boring beat, boring raps with no sort of clever wordplay

i definitely understand that feeling.

i keep giving this kid a shot tho, and every time i press play like 2 minutes later im like
:dwillhuh: 'so when does it get good?'

i cant do it. but always glad to see young blacks gettin money.:yeshrug:

:yeshrug: Hip hop is a minstrel show.

"bro I don't even know how to read bars"

:laff:

Congratulations cacs, you have successfully made hip hop the house of anti intellectialism

was he proud of the ignorance? currensy didnt know how to count bars either til styles P taught him, but he wasnt like, touting that as an accomplishment of ignorance, more as an anecdote during whatever interview he was giving

This is a great introspective post that most posters will look over.

The older gen shyts on the new gen constantly, so why the hell would they have respect for the older?

You could tell off rip Ebro wasn't fukking with him and was being a smart ass. In fact, most these type of rappers he always lowkey disrespectful to so of course Uzi gonna come at him like that

And Uzi was right. I don't want to hear him over some fukkin Premo beat. I listen to other rappers for that, not him.

i think its half and half, the older generation doesnt shyt on the new kids as a complete whole, and vice versa. but its kinda a dikk move to say you wont rap over old beats. im sure ebro coulda given him some older cool shyt, and some newer cool shyt. when someone complains about what they wont rap on, its basically saying 'i cant rap on that'

but if ebro is already coming at dude with a lack of respect, theres prolly no way theyd reach that simple middle ground in an interview to be like, give me a good mix of beats to spit on

but some of these new dudes also just dont seem like 'spitters' (pause). the cats who just wanna rap and will rap on whatever. i mean shyt, wiz kicked a freestyle over adele's hello

maybe uzi is a rockstar cus his hair is green, but maybe he aint a spitter. its ok, but just be up front with the shyt IMO :yeshrug:

This is true, a lot of these dudes haven't developed their craft. At the same time a lot of them have... Kevin Gates for example is more capable of a rapper than most that are out right now in any region of the country.

A lot of these new trap beats pretty much do all of the heavy lifting to a point where you can have a monotonous monotone flow and still sound ok (kinda like this uzi vert kid).

With the old boom bap beats you can't really just "ride it" at all. At some point you'll have weave in and out of the beat and basically add a new rhythm to the overall song with your flow/rhyme schemes.

Case in point, Kevin Gates "weaved in and out of the beat" and "added a new rhythm" numerous times. It's a function of the writing, not of the beat. The post I responded to talking about "boom bap beats exposing these young nikkas" is based on a false idea.

i was just using his anecdote as an example, it wasnt meant to discuss what you think about his music

I'm sure he respects the history of rap, he just tryna move the genre forward and interpret rap his own way I guess. Lil nikka is harmless, I say let him live

The Song Maker and the SK 5
Breh, yesterday was the black history program at the school i work at.

Choir and band did like a history of black music. Me and another adult did Run DMC Its Like That and tore it down. Dressed up and all that.

The kids had no idea what we were doing. One actually asked me, "are yall gonna record that song?"
