See this is why this argument keeps going in circles..

One side doesnt respect the history and the other side doesn't respect the evolution...

They should be able to coexist in the same space..

The funny thing is if KRS was on Ebro and said he didn't want to freestyle to "no Metro Boomin, Mike Will, Young Chop, Zaytovan bullshyt !!" older heads would be biggin him up.. Even though it would be the same level of disrespect to one's craft...

This does not hold up with krs in this because krs in poetry outlined exactly why rap needed to move away from 808 based percussion as dominant.

Beats with plenty bass,...
If its meaning doesn't manifest put to rest.

Always
A lot of old heads like the new shyt though on both sides (Future, Young Thug, Migos as well as Kendrick, J. Cole, Drake etc...) I know 40+ dudes who love future and they also still bump 90s-00s shyt.

but it seems like the young dudes just don't care or understand how much this shyt means to people, its not just about the music.:yeshrug:

You can't just shyt on history, nikkas worked very hard for his goofy ass to even get the time of day to speak.

If this is what he wants to do, so be it... but lets call it like it is. He's nothing special just like 75% of these youngins doin the same drowned out garbage.

808s and hi hats can't save you when you really get in the studio with nikkas who can spit.
I've recently gotten into new hip hop. I couldn't understand what they were saying or catch their flow for a while. I sat down and really gave it a listen. When I caught their flow I learned to appreciate it. People like Future and Young Thug are doing their own thing and it's interesting.

I'm 26 and I grew up listening to 90s rap and underground shyt from 2000-2006. Rap is very different now. I don't support the heavy drug use because I'm sure kids will OD. I don't support the gender lines being crossed because I'm old school. But all the music isn't bad. I like Mick Jenkins the most.

This isn't a good comparison. Jay, Rae and the rest of who you mentioned are not far removed from EPMD, Run DMC, PE, Rakim, etc. Enter the 36 Chambers dropped barely 5 years after It Takes A Nation of Millions and Jay-Z's first look on a song was in the 80s with Jaz-O. The gap between Uzi Vert and Raekwon is literally two decades. The actual analogous comparison is Lil Wayne/TI/Gucci/Lil B/ etc... Their influence on this new generation of rappers is obvious and the new generation readily acknowledges it.

I hear you, but saying the gap between this trash and Rae is two decades is not really true, Rae dropped OB4CL2 in 2009, Shaolin vs Wu-Tang in 2011. Even if it were two decades, it didn't stop Asap Mob to hook up with Meth for example. And older rappers had no problem bringing up MCs from even further back, Nas did the whole "Where are they now" song. And the point is I doubt any rapper from back then (hell, even from the TI/Gucci generation) would be on some "don't put on one of them old beats, I'm not rapping on it.

Brehs obviously are more infuenced by what you grew up listening to, but whatever happened to studying the music and digging in the crates? Sometimes I really wonder if these lil mumbling whatevers have ever heard stuff like the Pharcyde, Gangstarr, NWA and all that. Not even gonna mention music from outside the genre like G. Clinton, B. Marley or Portishead. Not even talking about LIKING it, but I seriously wonder if they have ever heard it/know it exists.

You're the exact type person who I'm talking about so it hit a soft spot. You have no response.

You'd know what I'm saying is true if you ever actually been active and apart of a music subculture, locally. not just going to big concerts cause in other music genres the older dudes don't shyt on the younger gen and vice versa. If anything they welcome them and teach them shyt. Hip hop didn't do that. The older guys haven't done that. If anything the younger dudes guys like Joey and Rocky are the ones who go out of their way to give credit, respect and reach out.

It's funny how disconnected thecoli and hip hop forums are actually to you know, real life music subcultures.

If you participate in anything whether its sports, art, etc you always pay respect to people who laid the foundation and study the history..That shyts like rule #1. You can't give to game to a youngster like him because he's not only igorant to it but proudly so.

I rarely heard BIG rap over any beats over 5 years old in his freestyles. 1 with the Kane sample.. that's it.

Nas only made records with is contemporaries.

Is this true? Beyond the iconic names?

Also - it isn't even the same. You can't be a NBA player and not have watched the NBA growing up. You can be a rapper... and not listen to loads of stuff.

This Dunya...and Beyond
:old: mad again. It was 01 they hated. 05 they hated. 010 they hated, now its 016 and they still hating on the young generation

The whole premise of this thread was a young dude disrespecting the older generation. Don't try to flip it around. It's bad enough that the younger generation lacks the depth and intelligence of the older generation. What makes it worse is when they have the nerve to rip on the generation superior to them in every way. They should have a little respect.

But this is all part of the dumbing down/dehumanizing agenda…so I'm not surprised.

They don't know about having a diverse ear or digging in the crate.
Which is essential to hiphop, as a beginning building block.
