PJ's role in that series was to guard KD. Nobody is going to stop an all time great scorer, but make him earn points and expend energy.

Strong player with low center of gravity, lateral quickness and good defensive instincts is going to give you a halfway decent shot of that, and keep your star player out of foul trouble. (and remain in position to rebound the ball)

That airball 3 by KD was because of the minutes he played and the defenders they threw on him.

quoted for emphasis. Giannis wouldn’t have had the energy to out score Durant in OT if Bud had taken the bait on this. Tucker did what he was supposed to do. Freeing up Middleton and Giannis to have more energy on the offensive end.

Giannis had 3 fouls that game, he was not in foul trouble down the stretch. Low center of gravity and all that is something in the post, not when KD is dropping damn near 50 shooting right over PJ because he's 6" shorter. If Giannis is all-defensive first team at 6'11" with that wingspan, should he not be able to stay in front of KD and use his length to bother him and have good defensive instincts?

I can understand not doing it all night and all series, but when PJ fouls out in OT and the guy you put in KD is Khris Middleton and not Giannis who should be the player you build in a lab to cover KD that certainly strikes me as a bit off

That's not even hate. If you 1st Team All D and not checking a GOAT level scorer that's a bad look. Cats just make all kinds of excuses for Giannis that other player's don't get. Doesn't mean these dudes hate him or some shyt you don't play in the league so stop trying to read into it.
This isn't the first time a bunch of them have said some passive aggressive type shyt about dude. Players always have dislike one another but keep a straight face in public with Giannis since he won MVP in 2019 there's been subtweeting and slick comments. It's basketball and yeah I thought he should've been checking KD but the Bucks won, these dudes not being slick calling this out and not giving props when he wins.

Do I think PJ Tucker is a better defender than Giannis? Probably not
Do I think it makes his All Defensive First Team placement look silly as fukk? 100%
PJ Tucker fouls out the game in OT, Giannis is not in foul trouble, so why the hell is Khris Middleton the next guy you put on KD and not Giannis still?
I mean, Bean was getting on them shyts off name recognition alone. :manny: shyt doesn’t matter in the long run. Players give props to the defensive dogs

The only one I know for sure that feels some type of way about Giannis is Harden. Just because they don't go out of their way to give a dude props doesn't mean they actually hate him. From what I know of the players, most of them do respect him they just not in awe of him like with Lebron or KD. Giannis really is "outside" of most of them cliques but it's not because cats don't fukk with him and vice versa. Just different personalities.

He has way more utility as a help defender and rim protector than he would in that matchup

A lot of it comes from the white acceptance he gets which is why guys hated Curry yet someone like CJ doesn’t get any of that and it’s never talked about how he has a white wife.

Giannis was othered and went with it. In a way it’s a reason why he got awards because of the narrative imagine the globalization of basketball leading to the best player in the world being a black “Greek” guy who isn’t like the black American stars with entourages playing in major cities with other black superstars. Plus he wants to win so badly and works so hard unlike those other guys.

It's clear jealousy for a number of reasons. One, dude is a physical anomaly even for NBA standards. Second, he's not all buddy buddy with other NBA players, he's just does his work, looks out for his brothers and isn't attention seeking. Hate to say it but I also feel like Xenophobia plays a part of it, just my opinion though :yeshrug:
