What hits aged horribly?
There’s a reason Jayz first (and only?) #1 hit on one of his own songs was gift wrapped and handed to him by Alicia Keys, “Empire State of Mind”. 50 gotta hella #1s…and they’re all solo records,
But let yall tell it…,

Performs all those songs to this day. And still getting plaques for them to this dayGive It To Me,H to the Izzo, Aint No nikka,Anything,Me And My Girlfriend although that was always wack its worst now. Dirt Off Your Shoulder is atrocious.
Im not going to mention all of his singles i dont like. Just the ones i think were liked at the time but didnt age well. So let me retract Aint No nikka, because i dont know if people fukked with that record or not, nobody I knew![]()

How did Dirt Off Your Shoulder age terribly? It doesn't sound like anything else from that time or now.
To me when I think of Hov tracks that didn't age well I think moreso on tracks that followed trends. Like for instance It's Alright from back when dudes were rapping over 80s pop samples; Nas followed suit on New World off Nastradamus. Or Anything which is clearly a cynical attempt to re-create Hard Knock Life. Or Things That U Do (Swizz trash).
H To The Izzo is an undeniable classic with a classic sample, can't hate that. Give It To Me aged very well, like a lot of Neptunes production (mind you I'm not a fan of them). I think Me & My Girlfriend is corny but at the same time....I still like it lol. It's a fun track, video was dope as hell too. Even being a Pac fan I can't really hate on it.
And even those hooks became too formulaic and stale by the end of '05. That era of "needing a hot hook" hyped lead to the verses not meaning shytJay overall most definitely. But prime 50 in the hook department is about as catchy as anyone's hooks in the game have ever been.
Thread not about catchy hooks, though. Songwriting is the entire package, and Jay is a better songwriter than 50 overall by a strong margin.
Yeah after The Massacre the hooks never really felt the same after that. They definitely got formulaic. And even some of the ones on Massacre sounded like they were chasing previous ones. Magic Stick and Candy Shop for example hella similar. And even those hooks became too formulaic and stale by the end of '05. That era of "needing a hot hook" hyped lead to the verses not meaning shyt
I fukk with 50 but I'm not mad at this takeI really don’t give a fukk what twitter has to say about anything hip hop related but I just wanted to say that Curtis has had one of the most overrated runs in hip hop when you really think about it
