its one thing to simply feature white people in an ad

its another thing to be a company dedicated towards catering to a specific type of hair which is the hair black people have, and then changing that shyt up so white people can use it too.. thats 2 completely different hair textures, obviously the same product isnt going to work for both people.. so them including white people may indicate that the products which black people use will not be the same as before because theyre trying to "expand" their customer base

call it a business move all u want, but changing your formula to disservice your core base isnt good business

the whole reason black people gravitated towards shea moisture was because there was finally a product for their problems and not white people products that dont work on them.. low and behold shea is trying to cater to white people now:skip:

Is there confirmation the formula has changed?

not from shea themselves but plenty of people have complained about their products not working on them anymore

theres also this classic twitter thread(click the tweet to read the rest)

I have been using their products for years and I haven't noticed any change in the formula. I think people added that on because they weren't pleased with the ad.

did they spurn because they didn't have the capital or because they low balled? it's more to it but honestly fukk those magazines

I'm speaking specifically to the hair product. Once a company sells out, then move on from it. I have no issue w/ nikkas cashing out, just stop supporting it after :yeshrug:

Naw they were spurned Cosby and Magic even mentioned that they had the money and if they didnt have it they would have gotten a team together.

I don't like Bob Johnson, but I will give him props for selling the then bobcats to MJ. He could have said fukk MJ and sold it to white folks. But he actually cut MJ a deal and said if MJ helped him out he would eventually do him a solid and let him have first crack at buying the team.

I went to their site and I feel like they are over priced. A hair product shouldn't cost 30 something dollars. and then they had a small little container of something for $15. Nope! They need to make their stuff more affordable.

Here is the thing sista. As a brotha who has gone in business, has worked with other black men and women in business and who supports blacks businesses. Black folks love to talk that support black businesses until it comes to paying that money or convenience.

You will have sistas go to korean hair shops instead of the sista shanique who just opened her shop because the korean shop got the weave they want for 10 dollars less a bag. Even though the korean owner treats them like shyt and doesn't employ black folks.

You got brothas who will have thousands of dollars in a bank that will close one of their accounts for lack of activity and treat them like a number. bytch about it but refuse to put their money in a black bank cause they ain't got enough ATM machines or they business hours 8:00 to 5:00.

Years ago when my wife use to wear weaves there was a brotha who owned a shop we would do business with. He owned the shop with his wife and his kids worked in the shop. Anyway he sold weave (same weave and quality as the koreans) maybe 15 bucks a bag more than the korean stores in america. Dude would go to korea and get the weave. But he didn't have the connections the koreans had so he would have to pay more.

Anyway my wife asked me hey I want to get some weave I see the brotha we know sells his for 15 bucks more a bag than the korean shop. Which one should I buy my weave at. I calmly told my wife you buy it from the brotha and his wife. Then the next time you get weave you buy it from the brotha and his wife......rinse and repeat.

It makes no sense that black folks can buy all the expensive overpriced useless shyt from white folks and others and then nickle and dime black business folks.

Then be on some support black folks talk.

I said it before the only thing that saves black barbers and beauticians is that asians or arabs don't feel like it is worth going into business in those fields. Cause all it would take is some asian women doing black hair or some arab barbers cutting black hair a few dollars cheaper than black folks in those fields........and black folks would flock to them giving they money away cash in hand.

Just like a black artist that goes mainstream after black folks been supporting them for years.

Black folks always get the short end of the stick.

But a lot of that is we are not selfish with our money.

I don't think that would ever happen with the barber shops though. No Black man with any sense of pride would EVER utilize a non-Black barber shop with the exception of maybe what you see in places like NY with Ricans. Beyond even pride, even though I cut my own now, no way in the world would I trust my hair with an Asian woman or Arab. The Black barber shop truly is a Black feature within a Black community and strongly intertwined with Black masculinity.

Now Black women and non-Black hair salons...............they're already getting horse hair from the Koreans, already going to Asians to get their nails done, already spending beyond their means for clothing and accessories produced by Europeans, etc. Include those shopping patters along with their misguided or lacking sense of self-worth, and it's a given they'd fall in line with non-Black salons and beauticians.

Yea, those Shea Moisture prices are :picard:

Their body wash costs 10 bucks :gucci:
They have BOGO pricing OFTEN. Between Walgreens, Sally Beauty, Ulta and maybe CVS. You can get the products very reasonably. Also in terms of "natural" hair care products, they are quite affordable. Look at Carol's Daughter pricing.

people still not making or buying homemade natural skin and hair care. :mjlol:

Funny you say this. That's how most of these companies started. They were homemade products that grew a fan base thus making the owners expand from home sales, to a small store, online, then in stores. I know Carol's Daughter was for a fact because my family used to buy from Lisa when she was literally making it at home by hand.

Did they really change the recipes?

:wow:

Receipts?

Yes. Many of us have been complaining way before the ad.

Did SheaMoisture Change Their Formula? (Updates) | CurlyNikki | Natural Hair Care
Many on natural hair websites and LSA were talking about it for a while. I don't have any old bottles unfortunately to compare but I definitely noticed it made my hair drier and my hair didn't like certain products anymore.

Nah, we've been complaining for awhile. I even posted about it in the salon a few weeks back. Not to mention LSA has had numerous threads on Shea Moisture and Carol's Daughter. I stopped using Carol's Daughter years ago before she sold the company, I noticed the products weren't the same anymore, as did other people.

That's unfortunate. I haven't had any issues with the quality of the product.
