That's business 101..... You have a consumer base already established, then you use your advertising dollars to focus on the extending that customer base to a new demographic....... its sound business per se, but they fukked up by not realizing the emotional backlash this could potentially cause in this era of easily being offended.....
We'll see next quarter if this round of campaigns aimed at White women actually does anything.
Business 101 also has "don't alienate your consumers" as the first rule of business.

The black owner of Shea Moisture is full of sh!t!!! First off, I worked at an advertising agency & also worked in the corporate sector of a major beauty brand. There is absolutely NO WAY that any ad goes out the door without SEVERAL approvals. The red tape is ridiculous & it can take WEEKS before a single color on an ad is "approved."

It is ridiculous that some people are reducing this error to inclusion. The problem is not the inclusion of white women. The problem is the EXCLUSION of the kinky, under represented & undeniably black women that grew Shea Moisture into a brand that would even register with white investors. I will take my black dollars to black businesses that appreciate their core audience....and there are a plethora of them within the hair and beauty sector.

Shout out to Thomas, who is one of the few men on here who is speaking with common sense.

They haven't been...... there is online outrage... but if the product still works, the overwhelming majority of black women will still buy.... my girl told me yesterday that the hood beauty supply store sold out of shea moisture products, like they always are..... but we'll see though......

Most of the people complaining don't even buy or use Shea Moisture. It's just like how certain internet bases will have you believing a rapper or singer is the best thing since Michael Jackson, but they don't buy their album. It's all lip service and something to do during the day while they're at work.

Miss Jessie's is even worse.

Miss Jessie’s Titi Branch Driven to Suicide By Boyfriend, Says Her Sister

Late last year, Titi was found dead in her apartment from an apparent suicide. But according to Miko, Titi’s boyfriend Anthony Spadafora, who is currently involved in a lawsuit with Miko, pushed her to suicide. According to the court papers, after Titi’s death, Spadafora emailed the family saying that he was owed 50% of everything because of the will.

EXACTLY how are you being excluded?

dude said none of the formula has changed.. now you can say he's lying.. but i'm going to need some proof

they had ONE commercial with a mixed woman and a white woman... and now that means that all the black women in the world are excluded now

how?

Yes, let's boycott a black owned company who could potentially give money and jobs back to the community because they didn't have "natural" women in the commercial. People don't see the big picture at all. Use the Trojan horse, make a lot more money, and you can do even more for your community and make better products.

I've heard people saying "but but they were making enough money!" :heh: Are you kidding me?
first to ruin a black business is black people

ain't you making enough?

why your products so high?

can't you give me a discount?

As a black woman, Shea Moisture now makes my hair dry. My experience, as well as many others, says that the formula was changed.

A mixed woman is not a good representation of a black woman. Period.

i wasn't going to argue the mixed woman point.. i was saying that it shouldn't be an issue if the ONLY thing they did was pitch their product to black women for 20 years... then one day they make a commercial for other races. i wouldn't call that excluding. i'd say that's trying to get new customers

the problem comes in when they change the formula so it no longer works with black hair... that is definitely exclusion so i would fully agree with you there

the question is, is that true? you and several other black women have said they changed it. this man is saying no they never changed a single thing. saying that on public airways is grounds for a HUGE lawsuit. you have gone on record and flat out lied about your product.

me as a man... i have no fukking clue who is right.. i guess you'd have to have an independent lab break the shyt down.. but some of these twitter people, who are out here making money off the fem movement... should definitely look into having it tested.. that's a class action lawsuit just waiting to happen

Do you your hair's porosity? How often do you shampoo?

I've tried that porosity thing. My hair just sits there. And I have to wash my hair 2 to 3 times a week due to psoriasis.

pretty sure they got bought years ago by a big brand.

And you know them cacs aint trying to have that "made for black people" tag on their products :mjpls:

They're trying to appeal to other markets and make more money. Business 101

its fukking soap and shampoo

who cares

Its owned by white people now. I'd be more worried if they were only marketing it for black people.

Shea Moisture will make far more money branching out to those who typically have more money to spend.

Mitt Romney's company Bain bought a large share, but the majority is still black owned. Like 51% :francis:

Dumb jawns on twitter mad af but don't realize this company is white owned :mjlol:

You guys have to learn to think deeper then what's in front of you.....I'll keep it simple

This is like putting a white boy on the S-curl box

This is like white boy's wearing dreads.

This would be like using a white boy for the fubu commercials in the 90's

Fyi: half the company is owned by a black man.

Fyi: The Shea moisture marketing board is all white women....figures

Business 101......you can't branch out by alienating your MAIN Customer's, you'll be starting over, just with a new base.

Their is nothing wrong with branching out, but the way they did it was extremely in poor judgement
