Above the fray.
This is on the heels of test score results released for NYC elementary schools last week. Slight increases from last year, but the numbers are alarming.

========
More than half of city school kids did not pass basic math or English state exams , even though this year’s state exams scores ticked up slightly, according to state data released Thursday.

While state officials lauded scoring increases, only 47.4 percent of city students in grades 3 to 8 scored at proficient levels in English and 45.6 percent made the grade in math, according to the numbers.

The city’s overall English proficiency rate edged up by 0.7 percent from the prior year and math scores improved by 2.9 percent, the numbers show.

The city’s Asian kids had the highest rate of math and English proficiency again, the data show.

In math, 74.4 percent made the grade, followed by white students at 66.6, Hispanics at 33.2 and African Americans at 28.2.

All ethnic groups posted gains in math, with whites improving by 3 percent, Hispanics by 2.9, African Americans 2.8 and Asians 2.2, according to the figures.

Asian kids also set the pace in English with a 67.9 percent proficiency rate, followed by whites at 66.6, Hispanics at 36.5 and blacks at 35. All groups posted slight increases in the category.

Our school system sucks. We spend the most by far and our black students are only 28 percent proficient.

We need new leadership.

No training/teaching/discipline should start at home breh. We need to take care of shyt ourselves cus no one will help us. We need to keep our dikk in our pants if we cant man up and discipline our seeds.

Those numbers are atrocious. :picard:

I can't even begin to imagine what has to be done on the street level to reverse those numbers. :mjcry:

They need to reform the entire fukkin public school system in nyc. Being a product of such, I remember in jhs I had a history text book from the 1950s that smelled of urine. These standardize test are also easy as fukk so I feel like even if you studied for a little bit you should be able to pass.

Why are black students always at the lowest scholastic levels? Very disheartening.

After checking the numbers several times for accuracy, I decided to NOT post the thread last week about the test results. It was a big story that day with Mayor de Blasio applauding the slight increases from last year. English up .7% and Math up almost 3 %. He took credit for the increases, and said they were the result of his universal pre K program set up years ago.

Only posted the numbers because they're relevant to today's story about the call for G&T to be eliminated.
Sad shyt for sure. We're going to have to come up with some internal and external ways to address this stuff, too. Every single thread about proficiency tests, regardless of the state, our numbers are dismal.

As someone who's been in majority black schools all my life in NYC, an extremely large portion of nikkas don't take education seriously at all:francis:. Mindset plays just a big a role if not bigger than poverty does when it comes to education. The average nyc black hs kids ain't taking there shyt seriously, its as simple as that.

Yall gonna come in here with excuses though:coffee:
