Doing a rewatch now. While Daniels is watching a dog show on Season 2 Episode 4 as he's about to start the detail that Valcheck requested, the commentary is praising obedience, saying that obedience brings out the champion not only in show dogs but even house pets that never had the blood of a champion. An animal has to follow orders without question. It is not instinct, all dogs have instinct but it takes obedience to reach master level.

I never thought about this, but the Barksdales were a family organization. That means if everything continued to run smoothly, then D would've been the heir apparent to Avon. That's crazy to think about.
Likely Avon would have eventually had a kid and held the throne long enough until the kid was old enough and ready to take over. Avon knew D wasn't that guy.
