The nikkas that are criticizing your decision to join military...step back and check their credentials and what they are doing with their lives. Most nikkas ain't about shyt. Just do your research and have a plan...whether to stay in for 20 and retire or get a skill that will translate to real world job.

WTF!!!!!!!!!!! naw dude, every branch has a dining facility/chow hall/mess hall (every branch calls it something different). They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and sometimes midnight meals too. The food is not too bad, but at the end of the day, it's free. And if they dont have those, they actually PAY YOU more money in order to eat what you want to on or off base. The gov has to either provde you with a DECENT meal or to pay you to eat. I have no idea what your boy was eating or where he was at.

20. I was an Army National Guardsman for 3 years prior to joining the Marine Corps.
Wanted to go RA (Regular Army), but I didn't have a Highschool Diploma. Just a GED.
I DESTROYED the ASVAB and got calls from the Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and the Army, but my mind was made-up.
Two weeks later, I was on Parris Island trying to stay alive.
Went from E-4 back down to E-1. Graduated Boot Camp with a meritorious promotion to E-2. Got another meritorious promotion after MOS School to E-3. Got my E-4 back in 18 months.
You can live off-base when you become an NCO (Non-Commisioned Officer), or, if you're married.

depending on what rank you are, I cant speak on the navy, but you gotta be E-4 and 3 yrs in service to move off base and basically "live on your own". The government pays for that too, depending on what rank you are, the more they pay you for housing. I was stationed in nebraska and my cap for housing was 800. i found a spot for 600 and pocketed that extra 200 for savings
Yeah sharing bathrooms with other dudes isn't too bad if they are clean....I hope....![]()
