I'd think long and hard about this one. Why specifically the Army? Have you considered the other Branches or is there something about the Army that specifically appeals to you?

i had a marijuana possesion charge when i was a juvenile... no college, no kids.. n im not married but been wit my girl for like 5 years now... my boy told me if i do get in it I should get married cuz that would be a lil extra cake...

Is that possession charge on your record?(sorry if that's a dumb question. I've never been arrested lol)

Reason I ask is because upon joining, you want to get a job that requires a security clearance. It will help if you ever decide to get out. Also those are the jobs where you will learn a skill in medical, communications, etc.

That possession charge could f that up severely meaning you will have few jobs to choose from. Now there are still jobs out there that don't, like Infantry, Cav-Scout, I believe CBRN(chemical, biological and radiological, nuclear tech) etc. Jobs like CBRN are terrible and have low-promotion rates meaning less money. It is a good skill because you will train and work with FEMA and other governmental agencies.

Infantry and Cav-Scout? If you aren't a complete dirt-bag you'll make E-5 SGT in 3 years barring you not being an idiot and do as you told. No matter how stupid it is, just do it and drive on. They tell you to jump out of a plane, do it. It's more money, Ranger school? Do it. Sapper? Do it. I've seen many cats come in and not be able to qualify for a clearance work their way up in combat arms and reclass to a "better job". On the real it's not easy to do. That might mean a deployment, it might mean getting shot at, it might mean seeing a friend die. :manny:

Oh in those MOS's you will have minimal time to go to school. MINIMAL. You will be in the field doing missions majority of the time. If you into that then you will enjoy.

I'm just thinking ahead if you cannot get that charge off your record and cannot qualify for certain jobs. If you can qualify for any job, depending on your test scores, pick something in communications or medical.

air force u prob wont have to do combat most you might have to do is secutiry unless u wanna be in the special forces u have the lowest chance of dying and the best living conditions

There is a drawn down in every branch right. His chances of getting in the Air Force is zero!

:upsetfavre:

Absolute :duck:

1. Army is the largest branch so by default they suffer more casualties.

2. Marines have the worst quality of life. You will rarely see retired Marines? You know why? Because the life is hard. Unnecessarily hard. They have the best duty stations due to them being under the Navy but they rarely get to enjoy them. Air Force has the best quality of life but the promotions are crap on the Enlisted side.

Lotta' returning soldiers with PTSD and mental health issues...definition of instability :merchant:

I won't speak on this because not everyone shares the same experiences in life, but let me tell you I've seen soldiers "medically retire" from the military with full benefits after claiming PTSD.

One soldier never deployed. He had only been in 2 1/2 years. Your first year alone will be spent in training depending on your MOS and what schools you do. He got assigned to the unit. Came to the duty station out of shape, fat and lazy. He never took a pt test(which you are required to do every six months and definitely within your first 30 days upon entering a new unit). He never qualified with his weapon. He was a straight clown.

He got into a car accident and hurt his back. :duck:...He went on profile. When you are on profile you won't get promoted or go to any schools. He spent the majority of his time going to appointments because he was on the verge of getting kicked out, so he claimed PTSD and got it. :duck:

Now I'm not saying people don't get PTSD. I won't discredit anyone who went overseas and put their life on the line. I respect them more than internet warriors, but what I've seen with my own two eyes is 100 percent manipulating of the system for full benefits.
