I seen a few apartments in Suitland, Temple Hills, Hillcrest Heights and shyt right outside the DC line that had some decent ass rents that didn't look like the projects from the outside but I know pics can be deceiving....how rachet does it get in those spots though? :sadcam:

I use to live in Hillcrest Heights...my mom still live there. I personally wouldn't move there but it isn't horrible. You could probably find some cuts in like district heights or something that secluded from the rest that aren't too bad.

For real, he's going to be a "professional" as in dentist, not an assistant manager at the 7-Eleven. He is probably going to want to associate with people in his same income level and intellectual level, not with dudes who spend their day breaking into homes and stealing TVs and jewelry, shoplifting at stores and shooting people.

yeah, anything with a Heights is gonna be cheaper than DC, but the crime will be higher. Laurel, Bowie, Upper Marlboro have a lot of middle to upper class blacks. Fairfax county in VA actually isn't a bad commute depending on how far you live in there. Springfield/Burke is suburbs but only 15-20 minutes to the city and the traffic isn't bad cuz you're avoiding 495 traffic and the bad 95 traffic (but not many blacks, more whites/asians). Mo County is cool, Silver Spring is pretty diverse area. I would like to live in Bethesda or Arlington, but until wifey starts pulling in the big bucks and we can split costs, it ain't happening. Woodbridge is too far and don't even think of living in Fredricksburg, that's like 45 min-hour from Richmond and too far. Same with Fredrick and Rockville, those spots are too far if you plan o working in DC. people do it though to get away from the riff raff.

Yeah, given your criteria your either gonna want to live in downtown Silver Spring, Old Town Alexandria, or those street names in DC that I dropped earlier. But DC is a bytch when it comes to parking, you better get a place with a garage.

If you are going to be a dentist, you can live almost anywhere in any state.
DC/MD/VA is a headache and I wouldn't move back to the area ever again. It's nice to visit and there are plenty of touristy things to do.

My best friend is stationed in NO still but she's from DC and she was telling me about the career opportunities for black dentist in in the Maryland/DC area. shyt sounded really tempting. Her and her husband leave NO in September 2013. I won't be done with school and Post Grad until 2014. I was thinking about even doing my residency there. What's it like out there? I plan on being in the crowd of black elite. Not tryna be an ass but if Im raking in nearly 6 figures a yr, who the hell else would i hang around? What's good out there?

come to uptown VA :ahh:

I agree. I visit family in the area all the time. Like I told the OP, he should ignore all that "black elite" rhetoric because 100 percent of the people he will most likely meet are lying about their affiliations and those that come from that world, you will know right off the bat and their personalities will have you :mindblown:.

The so called black elite don't have this extreme stockpile of wealth. What was passed down was social etiquette and values. That's what people do not understand. This bragging is no-no and there are a lot of people looking to recreate the definition of the "black elite" who fail miserably. Some people within the "club" have snubbed Barack and Michelle as not being "in". That goes to show you the amount of snobbery ingrained within the so called "black elite" when they don't consider the 1st Black President a member.

Certain social clubs have regional standards but they all share some of the same characteristics. If OP becomes a Dentist, he'll run in those circles but a guy who comes from a rough area or not apart of that world and ends up surrounded by it will hate it.

This shyt is so on the nail. I go to school in DC & I see those types all around campus. When I was younger, I used to think blacks were different than other racial groups. We all shared a connection, a black consciousness. I learned otherwise being around those black elite. We share nothing in common

If you're from the ghetto, trying to find any common ground with them is like blue collar whites trying to find common ground with Ivy League kids. Hell, even the broke nikkas eventually become snobby by the time they're upperclassmen.

DON'T MOVE HERE! DO NOT MOVE HERE! TAKE IT FROM A SOUTHERNER WHO'S BEEN HERE SINCE 2004 AND THIS IS MY LAST YEAR HERE

If you're from the South, you'll like DC for about..... I'd say 2 months. Trying to follow the Black Elitist crowd will leave you isolated from the regular black people in the DMV. The regular people here aren't that great either. DC is home of Independent Black women, most are single, bitter and jaded with major entitlement issues. You can smash all day, every day, but after a while you're going to want a something real you can build with.

I was so ambition moving up here from Louisiana, seeing all these "well to do" black with nice cars and clothes all around. I thought I was going to network and try and build something. WRONG! Black people are the most lost here. Most black people here live to up another black person and yearn for acceptance from CACs. SAD. At least black back in Louisiana worked together and help each other out even with all the poverty. Blacks in the DMV are always trying to shine on each other. A lot of us are living in nice homes and have cars, but most of us aren't really happy. Most people are uptight, in major debt and living check to check. There's no home/family type feeling here. Just that 24/7 hustle and bustle. Being from the south you know how much we like to chill and having good times with family and friends. Being from the South, you'd probably love Virginia Beach or Charlotte where you can still friend humble people.

Take it from a man that knows. 60k anywhere in the south > 100k in DC

Yep.
Seriously, if you know you are going to be banking 6-figures as a dentist, cost of living is so through the roof, it won't feel like 6 figures.

And, if you have a golddigger of a wife/girlfriend, she'll spend like you make 6-figures. $1,000 purse. $10 coffee. $900 shoes. $1,500 dress. Hey, it's just a weekly shopping trip to Tyson's Corner. Thanks honey. :sadbron:

Real talk.

A lot of these DMV women are TV brainwashed into thinking they need all of these expensive items and a man suppose to provide it. And these are the good women. :weirdo:

Yeh I think the OP or anyone who has these concerns should look at Charlotte, Atlanta, etc. If you are a Dentist you'll be around respectable brothas and sistas by default so DC really isn't necessary.
