What do you do?

I have the same problem with a 9 to 5. Not to mention most of my homies only get like 2.5% a year of vacation time.

Like 10 vacation days a YEAR. Wtf. U mean to tell me a nikka can slave 50.5 weeks a years only to have a week and a couple days off a year?!

That's barely enough time to go on a week vacation if you add travel and preparation.

I get 25 days a year

:blessed:

It sucks especially if u work with fuked up, shady, racist, pain in the azz cacs.

But we have to eat and provide for ourselves and if we have kids and spouses...we have to think about the family as well. Unfortunately sometimes we have to bear thru the BS just to eat....life is like that unfortunately.

First off, if you're only 21 and have a 9-5, M-F kudos to you, because I'd take that any day over my time as a seasoned janitor.

Stack up and save, explore your options, maybe volunteer at an old folks home, start up a workshop of some sort etc.

The world is yours chico, and everything in it.

Believe in yourself. fukk everybody else.

Thank God I don't have kids. :whew: that sold like a justifiable reason to commit suicide.

No kids till I'm independently wealthy. Working a job to provide for other people is a death trap .

What does a contractor even do

the federal government has many tasks they don't hire FTEs for, so in order to fill those gaps, they use contractors from private companies to basically do the job. the government isn't physically building the roads, schools, and infrastructure with their own federal employees...they contract private companies to do that work. that's where people like me come into place...

Sparking blunts in the shade.
See the cons that you are talking about in trucking are kinda what truckers who love trucking love about it. Never being home ect. Long distance truck driving is for single men who want to be gone all the time. If you want to be home all the time. Long distance truck driving isn't for you.

I am single, but being over the road and alone most of the time gets old fast. The turn over rate for truckers is outrageous, most of the people I went through school with quit within the first couple of months. I'm lucky enough to have friends and hoes in several places, but a lot of cats only interact with other truckers, truck stop employees and hookers. shyt will drive you crazy.

What is holding you up from driving local?

How are those turns when driving? :lupe:

I'm just stacking up a little more cheese before I put all those bill back on my back.

Turns can be a bytch sometimes, but you get used to it. Just the other day "someone"(:lolbron:) was making a tight turn in the Boyle Heights area in L.A. and dented a light pole. But they just acted like they didn't see it and kept on pushing.:steviej:

The biggest issue at first is going to be backing. Going in reverse with 53'ft of trailer that goes in the opposite direction of where you turn the wheel is a bytch to get used to.:wow:

I'm tryna get into trucking now
How bad is it?

Im out here on the road too. It all depends on what type of person you are. My experiences with other jobs made me realize that i would be happiest in a career that allowed me to have little to no contact with other people. Thats the main thing i love about trucking. NO COWORKERS!!!! I dont have to worry about people in my business or azzhole bosses looking over my shoulders. No dress code. No grooming rules. I start and end my day when i want to most days. I love the freedom. I dont smoke but if i did i could (cigarettes that is )

Once u get comfortable behind the wheel its cool. Obviously being away from home is the main con, but even thats not an issue for everybody. Im almost at 2 years then im going local

Yeah. I would enjoy that life. I got a DUI when I was 19 so truck driving kinda went out the window. I'm now a commercial and industrial electrician which requires A lot of travel I'm going to love being in a different city all the time. I hate being in the same place or around the same people for too long.
