Commercial is stupid. I thought she was gonna deface the statue or something. It’s insulting thinking a monument to someone responsible for the torture of our ancestors can somehow be trivialized by twerking in front of it.
It’s also cowardice. Feel good, passive docile institutionally acceptable deflection from what REALLY should be happening.
Twerking is not revolutionary.We’ll get more of this until we get real ones in control of our image.

gave that motherfukker the caffeine boost to order the squad to fire on all of them and burn the bodies afterward.
I hate it here. That commercial is just terrible all the way around.

I've worked in the ad/marketing/communications industry for a long time, so this kind of shyt is pretty on-brand. We're at low single-digit representation industry-wide and it's been that way since the 60s. And that's not an accident.
I think their agency of record is Virtue, which is owned by or a spin-off of Vice, which should tell you all you need to know. Their creative roster is mixed by industry standards, but I can glance at it and tell you there's most likely nobody authentically connected to the community on it. And if they are, they'll probably get muscled out of the final product or their visions will be watered down.
The director might be a Black dude, but none of the copywriters appear to be Black men. So, you're not scripting or building the foundation of the narrative. They do have some ACD-level (that's basically middle management) Black women there, but who knows what level of involvement they had. There's a lot of stuff in the field you have to make an ethical call on, but there's no way I'd have my name on this.

They feel inspired and they tear the shyt down, then they all start dancing on the debris and kicking the pieces into the trash. Then we flash forward to her pulling up again and getting out of the car and there's a new monument that shows a group of freedom fighters standing together then she smiles and walks away.
