He has a point

Confidence is quiet. Insecurity is loud. That type of ‘im actually insecure/hurt so I’m gonna overcompensate on the net’ stance that permeates the culture comes from women. And as with a ton of other things, new age nggas are following women’s lead:scust:

It’d take someone from the outside looking in to notice it. I’m relatively new to IG and one of the first things I noticed was people openly praise themselves. Ie chicks be like ‘I’m so pretty’. The era I’m from that’s corny. Now it’s expected. Look at the rap game :ufdup:Just one big taunt

In a nutshell black culture is erasing how things used to be done.‘Breaking generational curses’. Its gonna have some embarrassing and cringey consequences.

Getting a medical degree is worth celebrating for everyone. He's just being a hater but I agree with his point to an extent.

Killer Mike said something similar on My Expert Opinion. Gotta stop acting like we are "the first" everytime we accomplish something and start acknowledging that you are building on the accomplishments of the black people that came before you. THEY broke the barriers, your job is to add on and grow it. Not just celebrate cuz you "made it"...

People with his sentiment tend to be jealous of others and hence why they look down on celebrating college, obtaining degrees, getting hired for a job, or just pretty much anything that makes others happy for accomplishing a goal.

Our community has a lot of closeted haters like this guy who tries to twist his jealousy into something intellectual and deep, etc to not come off as an a.s.s.

I disagree with him wholeheartedly.

I wish I can change the mentality of black race. The only thing keeping the race from skyrocketing above every race is a billionaire leader.

First off that came from Killer Mike of all people so it automatically gets the red flag on the play

If someone is the first one in their family to graduate or start a buisness then yes, in their immediate family they are the first and should celebrate how they feel

You don’t ever minimize your accomplishments as a black man or woman in your day to day to appease some esoteric ass notion that contextually doesn’t make sense.

If you went back in time and told your ancestors who fresh from being property that they’d have descendants who never experienced chattel slavery, had their own home, were doctors, tradesmen, teachers, or business owners they’d be jumping for joy.

A lot of people from killer mike to the bozo in the video don’t really understand how rough it actually is out here for people, and the idea of them celebrating as if it they’re in the wrong is just despicable.

This life is short breh. You get few wins as is, you best believe I’m bigging my people up.

I think you are missing the point.

Its not about 'minimizing your accomplishments'.

It comes down to Cui Bono- Who stands to benefit from a brotha or sister simply boasting about their excellence? Often times (if not always), no one but the boaster.

I've said it before, but the vast majority of folks on that 'Black Excellence' time are only doing it to gloat toward other black folk.

Even Kanye's crazy ass understood this "Just to be like, 'nikka, you ain't up on this'"

I kind of get it cause i feel like a label like "black excellence" shouldnt be used casually to the point it feels like a watered down participation trophy for shyt that you're supposed to do. Its starts to feel patronizing imo

Obama(no matter if you agree with his presidency or not) is black excellence. Somebody graduating high school isnt black excellence(but still a good thing). Taking over an industry would be black excellence. A single owner is not.

You have no way of actually proving that

And who benefits from a black person graduating from medical or law school….

Damn, maybe, just maybe other black people

And again, you reek of insecurity.
