:what: just cause we poor and our educational system isnt as good as we would like it to be doesnt mean we cant still have pride in our land

Understandable, but to be overly concern about hair and skin is just damaging to the soul. Even if you a preferences either way it accomplishes nothing. You have Black Americans who are like this as well and when I hear it I'm like :snoop:.

As a Rican, this does not surprise me one bit. Both my mother and sister are darkskin and they hate being called Black.

MY nikka Tego Calderón talked about the struggles of being a Black PR. He said when he moved to Miami, he was treated like a 2nd class Rican. The Latinos didn't accept him and the Blacks were confused because they saw a Black man who speaks Spanish.

I've dealt with my fair share of issues and I accept them for what it is. The racism that Latinos display disgusts me though

yea but its a very deep issue. the whole white = beautiful and black = ugly thing goes so far back and its so deeply rooted that it will take many generations to obliterate that line of thinking.

That's the thing you tell me about those PRs who hate DRs and AAs but I've met those that we're cool with AAs but didnt like DRs.

Why do you think that would be so? Why would they be cool with African Americans but hate Dominicans?

They would mostly like be Nuyoricans. I even some Nuyoricans that are married to Black but mistrust DR's. Go figure.

At the beginning of mean streets
half way in basically she says she felt the same racial issues in PR as in the states, and DR had a lot more issues. People called people with nappy/curky/kinky hair something that translated to bad hair, and most Ricans are brown skin but considered themselves white.

Pelo malo/pelo bueno (bad hair, good hair) the same issue that runs rampant in the black community is obviously rampant in the Latino community too. I did a Brazilian blow out stupidly once and my hair was straight for about two and a half months (it's semi permanent keratin straightening solution) because it was easy and I wouldn't have to restraighten it after it got wet, and after those months my hair would not curl at all anymore. :snoop: But everyone told me I looked better with straighter hair, even my mom (who has naturally straight hair). That shyt is perpetuated by every damn community, it don't even matter if your hair is kinky or not if your hair isn't straight it's unacceptable and considered ugly. Even in Brazil itself, that shyt is so normal. Chicks with my natural hair texture (tight curls) would have all have straight ass hair down to their butt because even the most loose curls are considered ugly or nappy. And the fukked up part was, when I did that blow out treatment I was suddenly considered more professional looking at my job. :skip:

Puerto Ricans aren't black and I don't consider them my brothers. That's our problem. Trying to claim everybody. Dominicans......that's one thing, even though they hate themselves. Ricans.....they phased out whatever black genes they had a long time ago.

I had a relative tell me a really similar racist experience PR's recently. I don't no why so many Black people think Puerto Ricans are in some kind of brotherhood with them?:yeshrug: Especially NY'ers.:snoop:

Considering I grew up in NY, most ricans identified with being black than they did with being white. Cops didn't care if you was puerto rican or not, your ass still going to jail with the rest of them nikkas.

Exactly, and I'm sick of seeing these c00ns on social media simping for these broads and putting them on top of their own race while most of these broads view themselves on a higher scale.

Blacks are usually the ones calling latinos their brothers not the other way around.

A lot Black people DO consider Puerto Ricans as "brothers" in a mythical struggle. Especially in NY and Philly. Look at how many Puerto Ricans claim to be central figures in the hip hop subculture while still harboring strong animus toward Black folk.

I'll never consider Ricans black. They over there in the Mexican category.....we relate on some issues and whitey don't like either of us but, if push comes to shove, they'd turn on us too. So nah whoadi :birdman:
