Baylor is probably the mot underrated player of all time.
DC born and raised
whose voice was it when they listed their top 3 SFs?
the 3:10 mark

Elgin Baylor had the worst fg pct of any 30 ppg scorer in nba history he was an overrated chucker that would of been a bench player in this era
Efficiency $tats. The crutch of ESPN/hollinger-era fans. Players of different eras had slightly different rules, and as such league-wide stats vary across the eras. Without getting into any "adjustment" arguments (which I don't believe in) I will just say this - you can knock Elgin's fg% all you want, but how does that negate his ppg/rpg/apg and other accolades and all the praise and adulation from his peers?
the thing is players of his era were all shooting high fg% his were all atrocious
watch the tapes and you can see Baylor was just a much more supernal athlete than his competition but he had a low basketball IG(also proven by his run as a GM)and his stats were overrated imo
Dr J Wilt and Bill are all biased towards their era
Nobody would be dumb enough to pick a 6'5 SF to start on their all time team
Baylor is before Dr. J's time. If Dr. J was bias to his era he'd pick himself, Rick Barry, or Larry Bird.
Hes biased towards his childhood hero, same thing. You tit for tat fakkits on here...![]()

A great athlete could really dominate the game back then. It'd be crazy what would happen to the stats of some of the role players now if they played in the 60's or 70's. Jeff green, Rudy Gay, JR Smith and Joakim Noah would be all time greats
breh, just stan the Heat and stay out of basketball discussions.the thing is players of his era were all shooting high fg% his were all atrocious

Efficiency $tats. The crutch of ESPN/hollinger-era fans. Players of different eras played a game with ever so slightly different rules and trends, and as such league-wide stats can vary a little across the eras - fg% for example was typically lower in his era - his fg% relative to his peers was analogous to that of Carmelo Anthony today. Not many people complain about Melo's fg% today do they? Back in Baylor's time not many (if any) would complain about his fg% either. Without getting into any "adjustment" arguments (which I don't really believe in... these guys avgd what they avgd and there will never be an accurate "formula" to jump eras) I will just say this - you can knock Elgin's fg% all you want, but how does that negate his ppg/rpg/apg and other accolades and all the praise and adulation from his peers?
