literally everyone says that melo is inefficient, whether its because he has no help or he's just bad is the crux of the debate about him

looks like I need to watch more 'Melo discussions than, I didn't know he was gettin that much flak :manny:

Some people just aren't afraid to take more challenging shots. Kobe, Westbrook, Melo, AI. And, of course, Baylor. It keeps the defense guessing and honest, and it drives them crazy. I guess they are just destined to be sh*t on for the way they played 'on paper'. But it's just the way some players are, I personally don't think it takes away what makes/made them so good. It's just something for the stans of rival players to pick at.

IDK, efficiency is pretty damn important. Look at the two teams in the finals right now, the 2 most efficient offenses in the league. Poor FG%, in regards to elite scores is indicative of poor BBIQ in a lot of peoples eyes. Now, I dont think thats the case with the players you listed, but with the jordan crawfords and jr smiths of the world, definitely.

I understand. But I also think players in the mold of Baylor/Kobe/Melo need to be looked at from the perspective of the opposing defense too though. We can't just sit back on our couches and say "he shot .450 where as _______ shot .510... .510 > .450". Which a lot of fans are guilty of doing especially today where the tendency is for a lot of fans just to analyze stats to recap games and not necessarily care about watching footage.

Chances are if you watch the games/footage and listen to opposing players and coaches testimonial, the volume scorers of NBA history that didn't necessarily shoot the most efficiently, are some of the most unguardable players to ever play. By being less selective where they shoot, come playoff/crunch time they are harder/less predictable to answer with an opponents defense.

yeah, definitely. FG% isnt the only measure for a good scorer.

who got them rangs tho ?
:mjpls:

yah that's the tragedy surrounding Elgin's legacy... He DID get a ring though. But it's because he played 9 regular season games the season the Lakers won. He missed the playoffs.

He was no slouch in the playoffs though, he averaged 40.6ppg in the NBA Finals in 6 games one season during his prime, and took the Lakers from last place to the Finals in just his rookie season. You can't ask for more than that he gave it everything he had - his Laker team just didn't have a strong enough front court to beat the Celtics man in the middle, big Bill Russell and by the time Jerry West truly stepped up and entered his prime Baylor had shattered his knee. When the Lakers finally got Wilt, Baylor was a shadow of himself.

efficiency was never thought about until Hollinger and the nerds entered the NBAs convo.
