But back then, bullshyt was the minority, not the majority like it is now.

There was always songs that white folks got attached to and started playing them at sporting events, in commercials, and shyt like that.

But even then, the bullshyt songs back then>>>>>>the bullshyt songs today.Even the bullshyt was higher quality
back then you heard a song you didn't like, you were more likely to get caught slippin bobbin your head to it.

nowdays if you don't like a song, you might go to jail over it

This is one of the reasons why I :comeon:when i see people say NY doesn't play out of town music. Out of town Music has ALWAYS gotten play in NY. Some dudes have hated, bot most NYers show mad love to good music.

Yup right around the time where r&b, specifically female singers, were SUPER popular. A lot of good music though. Maybe not something you'd want someone to catch you listening and singing along to but I bet most of the 80s babies in this thread at least know all the lyrics to Janet Jackson and Whitney Houston songs.

If you were born in 1987 and up do not comment in thread.
Why not exactly....as if people born from 86 to 91 didn't grow up on the exact same music. It's not as if these songs stopped being played my guy, music sat with people a lot longer back then. And yeah, it's a definite fall off as far as R and B goes. No question. But there is no one raised in any black household between the ages of 22 and 26 who doesn't know and appreciate most of these songs.

With that said @CrimsonTider was right, there has always been bullshyt on the radio that sold a lot, it's just that there was also much high quality stuff that no one cared. Now it's just that there is more garbage so the ratio is off. The garbage isn't the problem, it's that people stopped supporting quality and went with image over music (though image has always been a part of it).

But 5 star thread, you got me reminiscing
