Life
Well football is another story for me.
I played it growing up, but after seeing all these stories and that PBS Frontline story about concussions, there's no way I would play football or let my kids play football.
Too risky.
Exactly...people don't think about the longterm your life does not stop at making it in the nfl.

@Turbulent smugness aside...I am glad he told him what it is.

Too many blacks in the entertainment/sports and not enough in fields that matter in society. I hate it had to be the stereotypical black kid...but that can be the difference that will help place him in a better direction in life.
good message. just the feeling behind it i had a slight problem with. keeping it real it's not even that big of a deal and i just found it kinda funny overall. i don't know maybe little kid did need that ether. maybe the ether will make him focus more on his school work. or maybe it'll make him succeed even more at basketball. who really knows. i just thought it was a slight scumbag type of attitude which i found :russ:

as far as little kid being black. i really don't give a fukk.

Ppl in here downing hoop dreams and sports overall and completely disregarding that this is the exact way that has helped THOUSANDS of black men/ women go to University for free or at a huge discount

I got friends who have degrees and dont owe any school loans because of sports, instead of being in college debt like most

I get the overall message but lets not act like this is black and white. Sports can still give plenty level headed blacks the means of successfully receiving a paid for higher-education even if they dont go pro brehs

I don't think anyone is disregarding that at all. If your catalyst for going to college is basketball or another sport, by all means, do it. But being realistic about your possibilities of making it should be on the other side of that coin. Besides, I assume this kid has a knack for science.

Even if my catalyst for going isnt sports that doesnt mean I shouldnt work hard at them

You could be planning on going to college regardless but being good at a sport will get you a free ride so why not focus on one if I have the passion for it

As long as I'm hitting the books, sports could be just as crucial as my GPA when talking higher education

Well lil buddy in the video said he was going to college to play basketball. No mention of actually having an interest in higher education. Kids like that think college is just the next step to their NBA dream.
