Well lil buddy in the video said he was going to college to play basketball. No mention of actually having an interest in actual higher educations. Kids like that think college is just the next step to their NBA dream.

That kid was young as hell breh so it make sense for him to think that way, me and my friends did at that age too

But by time we were 13-15 we already grew out of those delusions. Alot of em were just grateful if they could get a free ride like the older dudes we seen who were bound to graduate from college but definitely not going pro

Obama hit him with harsh realities :whew:Dijon needed that subtle ether though.

And that dumb ass kid having a dream of winning the lotto is the problem with today's youth. Wanting to be in the NBA, NFL, rapper, Hollywood actor, that shyt is 99% genetics and luck. Idiot kids need to know the realities

Even if my catalyst for going isnt sports that doesnt mean I shouldnt work hard at them

You could be planning on going to college regardless but being good at a sport will get you a free ride so why not focus on one if I have the passion for it

As long as I'm hitting the books, sports could be just as crucial as my GPA when talking higher education

We're not talking in hypotheticals. The kid said he wanted to ball, that's his focus and science seems to be his hobby. The kid seems to be excelling so it should be the other way around.

That's all cool but you had people in your life telling you that you need to focus on school and that basketball dream is far fetched. Dijon prolly fukking already, so lets not play like he a 8 year old or some shyt.

Ppl in here downing hoop dreams and sports overall and completely disregarding that this is the exact way that has helped THOUSANDS of black men/ women go to University for free or at a huge discount

I got friends who have degrees and dont owe any school loans because of sports, instead of being in college debt like most

I get the overall message but lets not act like this is black and white. Sports can still give plenty level headed blacks the means of successfully receiving a paid for higher-education even if they dont go pro brehs
I agree with this, sports scholarships help a lot of AA's getting a college education.

Majority of black college athletes don't make it to the pros but at least they graduate from college to go after other careers.
Man I got a lil cousin who is a junior in high school and can't make the varsity basketball team. Peep this though, he had to lie about his age to play on a rec team with the younger kids. I called him the other day and he said he didn't make the starting 5 on the lil kid rec team. He then goes on to say he is going to keep practicing because when he gradates HS, he is gonna play basketball internationally. No mention of college, he STILL thinks he can play pro ball. :snoop:
My mom did the same with my brother. He thought he was going to get a career in football....she shut that ish real quick . He is now studying urban planning at school!

And I didn't entertain it either....we are really direct/no sugarcoating in my family to the point that the ish hurts. But it is for our best interest.

People need to grow a backbone...I am sure he's heard worst by his family members.
My cousin did the same shyt to my brother, he wanted to play RB for the pros but the situation was to unrealistic.

My cousin broke that shyt down with a harsh reality until he finally get it, my brother was depressed over a week until he got over it.

Now my brother does acting, which his quite good at.:leon:

It's tough love, B.

You know how many deluded minority teenagers he came across in Chicago as a community organizer?
Everybody thinking they gonna be the next Mugsy Bogues?

:camby:

Hit the books, kid.
:deadrose::russ:

I was tryna be the next Allen Iverson though :guilty:

hell, when I was like 9/10 I was tryna be in the NBA AND the MLB like On some Michael Jordan type of ish.

I stopped playing sports in high b/c I was going after after another pipe dream :deadrose: (becoming a DJ/producer)

but all of those things were more so Hobbies. in the back of mind I knew I wasn't gonna make it

. Alot of these young brothers really do see Sports and music with a sense of hope to get them out of whatever situation they're in. Sad.

They need to see more Black men with great careers that are more attainable instead of more athletes and musicians

and nowadays if you're not being scouted by 8th grade or even 6th grade, the likelihood of you going to the pros is even more slim.

And those kids who are getting scouted at such a young age, they're probably middle class AND they're fathers played in the NBA, Internationally or at a D1 college.

The average kid in the ghetto or some country backwater town does NOT have access to all those resources and facilities to help then become the best. Unless they're get discovered by some booster family on some The Blind side type of shyt.
