Yeah, it definitely is a white collar quarantine.

I'm in my home office, working and having TheColi on another monitor. Def privileged. Easy to take it for granted.
I'll one up you. I had one conference call today, the other got canceled and I've been sitting here working on a certification the whole time. I even took a 90 minute bath / shower on my lunch.

It’s magnifying what we already knew unless you were one of those fake the funk people. I do feel for people out there though. To me, the most egregious thing I saw was Las Vegas drawing social distancing lines for the homeless to sleep in while every Vegas hotel in empty. But capitalism? :manny:

Hmm....

Exposing? Not really....this is and has been a celebrated standard of existence for centuries at this point...or to be more contemporary, since the post new deal ww2 modern america that were living in

If the imagery and concept of despair can be mainly associated with black people and none whites, then pop culture will sum it up as "these nikkas need to better themselves "...black people will then repeat these positions, then business as usual will continue:yeshrug:

Were cultured to speak as if theres this national compassion, or even underlying "liberalism" (in the sense of how european countries, and even some beyond, have and are willing to further establish protections for most of the citizens)

There isnt even a collective national identity here... theres no nationalism here...at least one that EFFECTIVELY extends beyond white people

Just think of other diverse slave countries, like say Trinidad...there's all kinds of racism and even ethic tensions, but theres still a collective shared trini identity and concern for one another (i say that as an outsider) we aint got no shyt like that here!

The real wild card for change is and always has been white suffering...it inspired the new deal, it inspired this new therapeutic "mental illness" non criminal response to drug disorder it inspired these wave of traditional liberal politicians....

I felt a sense of guilt when I went to the grocery store yesterday. Here I am with a makeshift mask and gloves and all the workers had nothing but gloves.

I live in Arlington, Va which is a pretty affluent area. 90% of the workers are young black kids in their late teens or early twenties from DC and other less affluent parts of the area.

But I gotta eat right? I have nothing but deep respect for these frontline workers.

:salute:

Ok...so what’s supposed to be the answer here? There will always be white collar/office work and blue collar field work - are office workers supposed to feel bad their job translates to a WFH environment? Are rich people who had multiple homes before this supposed to all of suddenly feel bad because they have choices?

pay these workers, ensure their is a net for them, and commend them for keeping the foundation alive, anything else is just looking for something to complain about

That’s the problem(and the point of the article). It’s just something for people to look at.

Nothing will change, they won’t get much extra for keeping things going just showing the gap in different realities.

Norfeast groovin…
The coronavirus is exposing all the the inequalities in our system.
Race
class
gender
income
wealth
healthcare
etc

I say this offline, but something is going to give really soon in the country.

We either "go back to normal" or we go full authoritarian, or we start exploring socialism. This is all going to happen in the next 18 months because this shyt is exposing so many problems in this country that can't be covered up anymore.

White House asking hospitals to email them data on coronavirus patients

4,700 hospitals in the entire country. One hospital for every 75,000 people in this country.

We live in a shythole country.

Ive been saying the same thing. I don’t want this to come out wrong but we needed this to happen. People are so lost in the illusion and fantasy of America that you need a moment like this to break the spell and show people just how ugly society is and can be if the wrong things happen. It’s like Temple of Doom when Short Round used fire to get Indy and the kids out of Kali-Ma’s spell. And the worse part is the most extreme it gets the better chance for change. But like you said, what kind of change we get is the wildcard.

With that, I’ll just leave this in here and say Happy Birthday to Baba Gil-Scott Heron:
