The point is VERY FEW people become astronauts, professional athletes, surgeons, successful artists, etc. In addition we're talking black youth who often enough don't have the resources nor support system to pull those pursuits off. Besides black women will reject you for being a lame if you become an astronaut.

Anybody can do basketball/soccer drills 5 and 6 hours a day :why: Becoming a doctor is WAY harder and you might hate the shyt

Very few people have the athletic gifts to be able to play professional.

Do you know how many kids spend 5-6 hours a day on drills and cant even get on their division 2 rec squad?

I think the problem is we aren't disciplined. Anybody can become a rapper. Hell damn near anybody can become an athlete with the right coaches. It takes true discipline and brain power to excel at STEM, IT, or Medicine. We lack the discipline to sit down and do the work. But it's all definitely possible if we're willing to go through that.
:duck:
It is harder to become a professional athlete than it is to become elite in the other things you listed. This isn’t taking anything aways from these challenging, amazing professions, but

There's millions of doctors around the world, there are thousands of athletes.
There are 1700 NFL and 450 NBA roster spots each season while 28k people become doctors in America every year.
Even if someone is good a sports, you literally have to be in the top 0.5% of athletes to make a league roster, while someone has to be the top 5-10% of students in their country to become a doctor.

Ehhh, I wish they'd do these commercials with more realistic goals. The professions they mentioned, a surgeon, an artist, an astronaut, etc., very few people end up in those careers.

When the breh that needed the commercial more than anything comments on the commercial :mjlol:

So just because very few people do it means you shouldn’t try? You know what they does? It takes away the possibility of becoming the thing you quit completely.

You know, I was once talking to a really successful person and they told me that they actually aren’t competing with many people because very few people even try to reach their position…because most don’t think it’s possible and thus don’t try.

It's not about not trying, but ignoring the picture on the ground is to do a disservice to the youth. I'd argue it's irresponsble to tell anyone that they can be anything they want to be if they work hard enough without telling them to have a plan B or see if their circumstances will permit. Very few people have the aptitude to become a surgeon, the genes to become a professional ball player, etc..

Not to mention the support system and resources to accomplish those goals. Lets not forget the financial strain involved either considering people are hoping and praying Biden comes through on student loan forgiveness. Seen a headline today with a woman who racked up 540k in student debt. Imagine that same commercial saying to a kid, "Son, if you work hard enough, you too can rack up 540k in debt. The sky is the limit."

To be fair, I think the kid in this commercial comes from a stable household with two supporting and well paid parent. Maybe this commercial is to reach the knucleheads with all the resources stuck in bad behavior, not the average black kid from the hood.

Verizon did a more grounded version of this commerical where LeBron, Drew Brees, and Adriana Lima tell people that society needs less entertainers and more STEM workers, but it got canceled because parents felt the commercial was too mean to children.

:what:

Gahdamn breh what? You want them to make the commercial about Walmart District Regional Managers? Just enjoy and spread the positive message towards our young boys.

Statically speaking a surgeon is more attainable than a professional athlete anyway.
