Nah breh. Jay-Z's thing is totally different.

He was flat out dominating for YEARS. He kept dropping hot shyt after hot shyt. Yes, he forced the accolades for Reasonable Doubt and Vol 1 (as though he didn't become the Jay-Z we know and love til Vol 2) but Jay-Z's discog is untouchable. And enough time has passed. You mentioned 20 years.

Has it even been 5 years for Kendrick? Think about that shyt.

You're the first person to mention ASAP in this entire thread, and it's completely off-topic :jbhmm:

This reminds me of the Kanye/Puff Daddy thread @stomachlines did when you brought up Jay-Z outta nowhere. Is that your thing? Rambling off topic? :ld:

Don't bring jay into this shyt.

All these rappers will be a joke 20 years from now. That's what happens when you choose a couple dollars to put out no substance

:russell: No one cares. Forced acclaim doesn't mean shyt.

You yourself claim to love GKMC and TPAB. Do you think it's as mindblowing/enjoyable as Supreme Clientele? The Diary? That's all that matters.

If you've never made anything as mindblowing/enjoyable as the GOATs best work, how in the fukk can you be in the GOAT conversation or in the running for GOAT? :mindblown: Makes zero sense.

I think TPAB is a special album.

I might be losing sight of proper context because I'm so used to disappointment in this decade of hip-hop but the album will mean something down the line. Maybe it is forced but I don't see it. I think Kendrick has earned his acclaim.

And it doesn't matter what I think. There are way more people who LOVE GKMC and TPAB. I don't love them. I like them. If I'm the only one who hates Liquid Swords and thinks it ain't classic I represent like 1% of opinion.

Point is, he's on the right track. He hasn't faltered on his albums and they've all been of very high quality. Does he have a Supreme Clientele or an Illmatic or Ready to Die? No. At least not yet. But he keeps releasing albums on this level and maybe he will get that magnum opus that elevates his position. High-level consistency takes you a long way into entering the GOAT convo. Maybe on the periphery of said convo, but in that convo nonetheless.

Kendrick will be considered an all-time great by fans and peers once his career is finished. Sorry to burst your bubble @SirBiatch. BUT calling him the GOAT is definitely a big stretch.

No he won't. Stop lying to yourself.

You don't get points for consistency. You get points for brilliance. fukk outta here.

cool story.

Like I said, I've been through all this bullshyt. I remember the nonstop think pieces on Wayne. Kendrick's struggle-think pieces are on a whole other level but the outcome will be the same.

Either way, time will tell. I don't mind being wrong, but do you? :myman:

For someone who accuses others of getting mad, you sure are  right about now.

Last time I checked Ice Cube was criticised for his fall off post-Lethal Injection. He wasn't consistent. He had maybe the greatest peak ever and then kinda slowed down.

Common doesn't have an album on that kinda level you were talking about (anything that is is debatable, like LWFC for example). Yet he's in the GOAT convo.

then why are we even pretending like any accolade convo is serious? Especially us who supposedly know better.

But bruh, you can't be "right on track" if you're not making shyt that's up there with the GOAT discogs. You only become GOAT by making GOAT music. Period. Not how many "decent" or "listenable" or "yeah that was cool" albums you got. You could have a million of those and never be in the convo. That's why nikkas like Biggie are in the GOAT conversation despite only being around for a few years. His one album alone is better than 99% of nikkas's discogs. And in the 4 years he released music, nearly every single song he did was fantastic and still is fantastic. Ironically, he has a larger discog than 99% of dudes who have ever rapped.

Has Kendrick made any album as good as Scarface or Ghost? If not, fukk outta here with any GOAT convo

I understand why there is an accolode conversation

I dont take it serious tho

But im an 80s baby, a hip hop head since 1992 so it is what it is

I chop it up with young homies all the time and talk hip hop

They love talking that "of all time"..i shut em down when it gets to that

Enjoy ur drakes and kendricks but no all time talk until its been 15 years

Kanye just NOW became eligible to be discussed with respect to his standing all time...for me

:snoop:

here's the problem: I respond to this bullshyt, and you'll deflect into more about Common instead of getting to the actual topic at hand.

I let it slide, and it's a missed education opportunity.

First of all, Common's not in the GOAT convo. Knowing you, you probably picked him because you thought it was an easy target to let your struggle point slide. Common's dope as fukk, and reached dope heights, but he's just outside that GOAT convo.

With that said, "Resurrection" (that's the album) is great. LWFC a little less so but still great.

In a way, that's a perfect example. Common from Resurrection - LWFC was consistently dope. Not much earth-shattering but dope nonetheless. Certainly better than anything Kendrick's ever recorded. Still not in the GOAT convo.

Kendrick would be lucky to be considered better than Talib Kweli when the dust settles.
