I didn't graduate college, didn't learn a trade and I bounced around bullshyt jobs for all of my 20's. I was 31 getting paid 8.25 an hour working at McDonald's. Then I realized these "general labor" jobs could get me right if a had a game plan behind it. So I got a job driving a forklift paying 12 an hour, got certified. Did that for a year, leveraged that job into a warehouse/material handler job that paid 15 an hour. Did that for damn near two years, got a supervisor position and leveraged that to get into logistics operations. Now I'm 34 making 40k a year...which ain't shyt to the Coli, but im coming from making 8.25 an hour 3 years ago. Stayed in logistics for 3 years, ended up making around 56k a year. Used that experience to get the job I have now in the paper industry making 69k.


You're only limited by your own ambition. Start somewhere, become a beast at whatever you do, move up and leverage that into a better job. Don't be afraid to relocate. Don't be content.

The young people now would just sit on the couch and demand all kinds of social policies to put money in their pockets without getting up off their asses and making things happen.

We are now living in a volatile, ever-changing, cyclical economy and culture

Especially if you're a Millennial, you've seen it

In a span of only 25 years, you've seen music formats change from cassette, to CD, to Mp3, to streaming
A person who got a Computer/IT degree in 2002 is basically ancient in 2020

shyt, just go on Indeed. Look at all these new job titles that came out of nowhere, new certifications, employers looking for multi-skilled workers, etc

IMO it's because of two things.

-The technology is literally updating every 6 months
-Aging/retiring population

So much new things to learn, and so many new open slots with retirement

If you the type to come to work, clock in, clock out, and go home... with no care to "move up", get a side hustle, study for certs/licenses, you will definitely SUFFER.
If you the type to depend on your boss to provide for you until you're 65, you will SUFFER
If you the type to only depend on steady paychecks in the age of layoffs, mass new hiring, govt shutdowns, cyclical stock markets, you will SUFFER

I was tempted to turn down a promotion so I can live the "simple life" but times like this make me realize how important it is to move up and show that progression on my resume.

I also dont spend money and save heavily.

I'm good at plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and automotive. Never really considered myself ambitious, just curious, unafraid of taking on projects and grew up being self-reliant out of necessity. All this shyt is easy tbh, "if one person can do it, then I can too" has always been my motto. No excuse with the wealth of information at our fingertips these days, I learned how to do all this shyt pre-internet
