Gang violence...
i dont have any resentment toward this becky. she is naive, doesnt know much, but she learned that the scorn, paternalism, and hatred minority women face is arbitrary and really just about white people's ego more than any real principle. this actually makes her wiser than most white people on matters of class and race, which isnt saying much, but it's something.

she didn't even mention the parallels between minorities and her plight. :mjpls:

Are we suppossed to believe someone who grew up so affluent like this has no friends or family that can help during a temporary setback? There is a lot missing from this story but from what she posted she was never really struggling anyway.

you cant separate minorities and welfare politics in america, even if she kept it race neutral

It was obviously the broader point in her piece....a condemnation of our "welfare politics" and the corrosive and disgusting ways in which many Americans deal with and talk about the poor, and how those in poverty internalize such in horrible self mutilating ways.

The finer point was a cautionary tale to middle and upper class people essentially living check-to-check, that they are a couple of setbacks away from becoming the "lazy moochers" they arrogantly deride. But alas, we on the internet are always trained to attack, so the author is of course getting hated even though she tried to write a personal narrative that would invoke positive reflection from the audience as it relates to the poor.

Typical libertarian....so hopped up on their own narcissism and runaway ego that their default mode is this delusional idea that they did it all by themselves. That was a first ballot hall of fame contradiction, but it doesnt matter to Nelson one bit. In the mind of a libertarian/conservative, they delivered themselves out of the womb, cut their own umbilical cord with their teeth, and they hit the ground running getting to the business of surviving and making it all on their own. So since they obviously didnt need any "help", why should they help anyone, and why should society at large provide any sort of assistance? They are informed by their own personal narrative that didnt need any help, not even for a split second in their whole life, and that gives them the right to judge the less fortunate. Pure crazy.

I read the article.

People pass judgment for whatever superficial reason they please. They don't "know" how you live, your struggle or your circumstance. What they see, they believe and use their self defined "truth" to judge.

What they "believe" is that someone with a late model Benz has no right to stand in a food assistance line.

You know how they react, so you can go in your Benz, or you take the bus. Your struggle is not their struggle, you don't need to invite that into their realm of understanding. You don't invite that into your life. You take the bus.

Family members commenting about the Benz, if I'm not bumming money from you... suck an egg.

While she had the babies and was more employable than hubby, so she gets the job, he stays at home with the kids. Maternity leave? You take your 6 weeks and return to work? No? Yes? I dunno...

The house, so the house was the noose. I totally understand, bad mortgages tanked a lot of families.

The soda - people should mind their business about a BOGO. I've seen people buy lobster with foodstamps.

It's funny how we think about the moral right or lack thereof to public assistance.

Tons of people game the system for years to decades and meanwhile people question the right of someone who is using it properly -- to get through rough times as a result of temporary outside shocks after paying into the system on the net before and doing so again after.

But because they're white...

Read the article but I'm only going to speak on the mortgage part. The local assessor determines what your house is assessed at which will determine what your taxes will be.

If when you purchased your house it was assessed at $250,000 that is a snapshot at that time what it was valued at. Three or four years later they come around again and redo it. Based upon the houses in the area with similar features your house is now worth $175,000. Doesn't matter how much you owe at that time.

When you try to refinance the bank will look at your current assessed value and go from there. It's the bushes if you are like I bought it for $250k and I owe $210k. They only deal with local assessed value and their numbers will be based on that. If you can get a house for $100k and the value goes to $250 it's profit. If you got $250k and it goes to $100k its a wrap.

Loiter Squad, its an Odd Future show.

She big ups Obama for helping her out in the article :manny:
I still don't see the lesson learned in the article :patrice:

It's not even about that.

It's about people judging someone for using a system they've been paying into for years.

They fall on hard times & now need to use that system..why is that a problem? They have every right..

People putting their nose up at a white girl in an old benz(who wasn't even rich in the first place) meanwhile their child is probably rocking a $100+ dollar pair of sneakers.

...But since they're white.
