I’ve put many phones in white rice. It always works.
It didn't work for me.
I had jury duty a few months ago, the guy they assigned to sit next to me, was a Jeff Goldblum looking creh, damn near identical, I almost called him that too
He got selected and I got to go home

It didn't work for me.
I’ve poured entire boxes/bags of rice in a ziplock bag and left my phones for at least a day. Soon as it drops in water I do it.
Left mine in for days, and took it to a shop afterwards too. Didn't matter, it was fried.
I wasn't able to do it immediately though, I was hiking so probably took a couple hours before I got to where I could do it.

Funny thing is white rice has fixed like 3 of my phone's over the years
I remember thinking it was ducktales when I read rice fixed water damage on phones but its also worked for me every single time. Even had some earphones that got soaked and stopped working, overnight in rice and they were back to normal
