A major part of the problem is the way the mainstream media treats social media as a solid indicator of what the general consensus is of people in general. You can have 20 people on Twitter "outraged" over some unfounded allegation. Meanwhile thousands upon thousands of other people are more level headed about a matter and want to wait until more information comes out before forming and stating an opinion. The mainstream media though will run the story with a false narrative of most people being outraged instead of just the 20. It's kind of like on here when someone posts a thread titled, "they're mad at" or "they're coming for", etc.. Meanwhile it was one random twitter user with two likes they're using as the basis for their thread.
