The NBA has done a solid job of convincing people that this game has any long term ramifications beyond that play-in game. Portland won their play-in game last year and you had too many people convinced they stood a chance against the Lakers. It's the least effective Wild Card-esque situation in sports

Thats why this yr will be great experiment if the Lakers are in the play in and then win the title ...the NBA will have proof their "WILD CARD SYSTEM WORKS".... which we all know on most normal yrs this shyt will never happen but the media will eat it up especially if they can get Zion, Lebron, and Stef on one side in the WC and then have Westbrook and Beal, Boston and LaMelo on the other side

I don't think the play-in is all that serious, imo. I think it give those 7-10 seeds something to fight for, it makes for compelling television and while I still think the best teams will ultimately win out, I don't see any of this as gamebreaking. Hell, it gives some of the more underrated teams another chance to shine even if they do lose. I think it also lessens the chance of better teams getting knocked out due to a rash of injuries and poor teams who happened to have a lucky stretch make the 7-8 seeds.

just say it's 6 seeds and two play in spots at the beginning of the season
I get why people are bytching cause the wording implies they already earned a spot in the playoffs
it's mostly semantics i guess but if you start the season with wording that implies being the 7th seed doesn't mean you make the playoffs team will eventually adjust expectations

12 spots are playoffs and then other 4 spots are wild card...

The only problem is if the 9 and 10th seed are are 7 games back of the 8th seed you will be mad as the eighth or 7th seed if you get lose lmao

By you logic why even bother with 8 seeds per conference and just have 4. Better yet, just like the media vote who they think are the two best 4 teams are like they do in college football and decide it that way.

Not sure what people are complaining about. If you dont want to be in the play-in games (7th-10th), be in the Top 6 then, and you dont have to worry about it. Simple. Usually, the 7th and 8th teams are getting smoked in the 1st round and they people complain 'why are there even 8 teams in each conference, the last few teams suck, etc' every year.

This season, the Lakers, Warriors and Celtics are in the mix, so now people dont like it. It probably a one season thing.

Also, they added this 'play-in' this season because there are only 72 games instead of 82, so they figured that teams would not be a separated with 10 less games in the season.

Last, for those who dont like this 'load management' era, that crap is here to stay for the forseeable future. I hate that stuff, but thats the new NBA now. Cats playing 82 games a season are done. If you get 78+ from your star, consider yourself lucky

Stupid post. Any season with less than 82 games there should be a play in. If you play the full 82 then there shouldn't be a play in. From my understanding this season is 72 games so IMO the play in is fair.
