The NBA ain't never been about surprises brehs. The year always begins with 3-4 teams having a legit shot at the title. There's probably more parity now than ever and even the shytty teams like the Kings (Cousins) and Cavs (Kyrie), etc. have interesting rising star players and a foundation being built...

There's really only a few teams that are in miserable shape. Plus, this upcoming draft is going to up the talent level even more..

Listen, in a perfect world maybe LeBron stays in Cleveland or goes elsewhere where he doesn't have an all-star cast and takes a more difficult path.. maybe that makes the East a whole lot more interesting BUT what probably ends up happening is Durant/Westbrook run the league (barring injuries) OR Timmy squeezes one or two more out of San Antonio.... There is never going to be a situation where 5 and 6 seeds (lets call them 'wild cards' in comparison to the NFL setup) get hot at the right time and go on a magical run. That's not basketball. If that's what you want out of basketball, WRONG SPORT... I love the NFL playoffs and the unpredictability but I also love the NBA because we get legitimate HEAVYWEIGHT title fights between our contenders.

We have to change the entire playoff structure just so the Lakers can play 4 more games this year?
Aint even thinking that far bruh. Just saying that the 16 best teams should make the playoffs to give fans more competitive bball.

I haven't even jumped into the NBA season yet but Barkley even saying this season been terrible.

Chuck literally says the same thing every year word for word. He is just a cranky old man at this point who thinks his era was better (it was)

So right now that idea would get Phoenix, Memphis, and the Lakers in ahead of Washington, Charlotte, and Detroit. I don't see any increase in competitive play there to be honest.

Kobe not playing is huge. But still even if he was, the league still sucks overall right now. There just aren't as many superstars as there were in the early 2000s. Have people forgotten how stacked the league used to be?

Totally agree, I don't understand how people say the league is more competitive/entertaining today.

Honest to god, how can you NOT LIKE SPURS basketball?

Their offensive sets are amazing and Tony Parker can create offense out of anything.

I guess they don't watch the games.

idk, i see this as a changing of the guard type of season.

I think Heat/Spurs should still be the Finals match up, but there are some yungins stepping up to the next level.

Rose's injury has put a bummer on things tho.
Agreed its a season when younger players are showing who's real or not

If you like more varied basketball with more focus on ball movement, spacing, and smarter play then you enjoy today's league. Isolation ball is much less effective and much easier to defend against so it's not used as much.

There is also a lot of young talent around the league even among the worst teams that people are sleeping on plus games are fairly competive. It just so happens the best teams are well-coached and have consistent defensive philosophies so they're harder to upset.

We got players like Lilliard, Wall, Drummond, Davis, Cousins, Durant, Westbrook, Kyrie, Kemba, Paul George, Curry, and such starting to grow in front of our eyes.

No. They just changed the rules to make it harder. If zone defenses were outlawed and illegal defense brought back so you couldn't load up against one side of the court, then iso ball would be back to being effective.

I'd much rather watch 90s and early 00s style basketball than the wack college version of offenses we see today. The thing that made the NBA game different and IMO better than college was the fact it was more individually focused and allowed the greatest athletes to exploit their superior abilities. Now its all about spacing as you said, every team is trying to get these stretch 4s. Back to the basket 4s are almost unheard of now. The game is all about 3 point shooting. Etc.

You clowns can pretend like its some better game but don't come here with some bullshyt about it being less effective inherently than isolation basketball. They just changed the rules.
