My dad taught me how to change the oil in cars. Today I go get my oil changed. Hell, my dad does too these days. Society has shifted. Do I think men should have some basic skills? Sure, but again...we live in a service economy where you can get various things done for you.
Ironically I was at Home Depot last week. My shower was leaking so I removed the washer/cartridge and headed out to get the replacement. Super quick. I'd imagine I could have called a repair man and gotten it done, but in my mind fixing it myself was more convenient (and cheaper). Whereas changing my own oil would certainly be cheaper but is less convenient, so I just go to the dealership for that.
Other repairs I will just handle, off the top of my head. And often involve going to Home Depot:
-Relighting a water heater
-Replacing a kitchen or bathroom faucet
-Repairing/replacing gutters
-Replacing toilet valve
-Replacing a ceiling fan
Everything on that list is easy except the ceiling fan replacement. And if you didn't have a male figure to teach it to you, Youtube can get the job done for you. Or you can call somebody. I think it's very important not to clown men on this because some men feel bad about this shyt. Not having a dad to show you these things sucks, but that doesn't mean you can't do them. Hell, I'd rather watch a quick video than do what my dad used to do: drag me to Home Depot to buy one thing, drive home, realize he needs another piece, drive all the way back, etc etc lmao. In hindsight it was hilarious but at the time I def remember missing various basketball and football games because we didn't complete something until 10PM.
