I don't hate Drake but one thing that I can't wrap my mind around is how do people like him but not Big Sean and vice versa.

They 're damn near the exact same rapper

People have been programmed to like Drake, they were told to like Drake so they do, it's that simple.

Big Sean is better than Drake too, but then again who isn't? Young Thug is probably worse, but it isn't a long list of worse rappers.

How old are you b? Not even on some hating shyt. I'm in NYC and ATL HEAVY, and I ain't met a college age fly nikka YET that don't fukk with Drake on some level. Not even on some stan shyt. They rocking with at least some of his music, and all got favorable shyt to say about his last effort. He got hits and misses like everyone else. So I don't get these posters on here who hate on everything that man put out. shyt is mind boggling :mjlol:
Where am I hating :dahell: I have liked some of his stuff. I asked a simple question :manny: how is this dude the top Hip Hop artist right now?? He lacks substance and his music isn't that great and it all sounds the same :yeshrug: is this not true?

Oh nah I wasn't saying you was hating at all. I was saying I'm not trying to be funny asking you how old you were. In my opinion a large demographic relates to his shyt a lot more than say the rappers we been accustomed to over the years. I fukk with it. Talks about hoes, coming up, family problems, partying. I'd love to hear another angle and we might see it but who knows.

I'm an older head but I like party and bullshyt as much as the next dude but Drake music is generic as hell. It's been what 6 years or so of the same shyt. It's obvious they are force feeding us this nikka. And it's rich nikkas fighting over dude :dahell:

Are you serious?!? :mindblown: how long have YOU been listening to hip hop and you are OBVIOUSLY white. Cats like you are what's wrong with the culture.
I'm the realest nikka on this site I have been listening to hiphop since birth

There was only a small pocket in time where hiphop artist rapped about socially conscious shyt and it was trend

The only people who think rap is more than entertainment are dweebs as hiphop heads

No one gets props for "saying shyt in rap" they get props for making good music

Then you must have been born about 6 years ago...The best music ever made in damn near ANY genre had some type of substance. Hell if that was the case damn near anybody could make music, and we know many have tried, the greatest ARTIST of times have majority been EXTREMELY talented writers or composers. Drake has not shown that he is either. Seriously what's your point of listening to Hip Hop if you don't want ANY message in it??

the hoes1 loved em from day one. not sayin hes a say LL but he had a good backing from women. im not big fan but i think his last album was kinda dope. the mixtape iite with me. im sure the first nikkas who rode his wave were just bumpin em cause they girlfriends was obsessed. or they were ymcmb cheerleaders/ wayne stans. plenty hoes were puttin nikkas on to drake years ago. thats all....

but right now hes put in enough work. i mean ask the camel he rode drake dikk every album. kanye rode his dikk tooo. but on the real i gave em a pass when he dissed uncle luke :pachaha: that was last year or so. :heh:
so I guess jayz forces his way into drake studio sessions? I sure drake contacts jay not the other way around

I didn't compare them directly as rappers. Jay-z makes better music and can rap better. As far as 'substance' he has very little and they can be compared in that regard. Even 'Song Cry' sounds forced and contrived. The only song on the entire album and honestly up until his career at that point was the song where he thanks everyone. I forget the name of it off top though.

Jay-z, Wayne, and even Gucci Mane I think are all better rappers than Drake. That's not my argument. Saying you can't understand why anyone likes him cuz his substance is weak doesnt sit right IMO. You like rappers who don't have much substance, im sure. His lane is that party / socialize music. Not thought provoking, conscious and/or political.

And I swear to god if someone brings up Tupac Im going to give them the Camby. You are talking about a once in a lifetime type artist and thinking everyone should be able to live up to that standard.

U way wrong, every jay album has alot of substance, songs like "regrets" "d'evils" "u must love" "lucky me" dont contain substance

simp anthems :yeshrug:

It's all contrived with him and doesn't come off as genuine. If he had so much substance in his music he wouldn't have had the Kingdom Come knee jerk reaction. Even he knows that he isn't some deep, introspective artist.

There is really nothing about 'D'Evils' that has a ton of substance or deep. It's a dope song but to act like it has a ton of substance when its a crack tale song is mistaking a good song for a deep song. He has literally hundreds of songs about hustling.

That's my ultimate point here...Drake isn't a deep artist but you can still make cool music with out being deep.

What is substance? Why do I need a rapper to tell me the world is fukked up?

My point in listening to hihop is that it is entertaining and fun to listens to?

False, maybe u cant relate but it has ton of subtitle gems, thats why jay is great, alot of the stuff he says is subtitle and not forced at u

"chains is cool to cop, but most important is lawyer fees"

is powerful lines to the people who relate to them my dude, like he said on renegade, "how u rate music that thugs with nothing relate to it, I help em see they way thru, not u"

I'm not trying to chose the reason you listen to anything but for you to say subject matter and substance is weak criticism is bullshyt. Read these names
Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Bob Marley, Prince, 2Pac, Stevie Wonder, Willie Nelson...all are legends because of the SUBSTANCE in there music. Do you really think Drake is anywhere CLOSE to this level?? He is a mid level talent at best.
