I don't know what the exact definition was but those were definitely the common beliefs. The red pill shyt came about as a sort of response to the pick up artist bullshyt.
Now for some reason the red pill dudes have BECOME the pick up artists.

Alot of this manosphere shxt is just a response to all the day time talk BS that women get fed.
Someone figured out that most men aint smashing like they talk, don't pull quality females, don't have much guidance or accountability, and that many are entitled. Then they started feeding alot of these guys the type of BS they want to hear to validate their inadequacy.
It's not different than preacher pimps or Derrick Jaxn, or Fox News or any outlet that finesses people as entertainment under the guise of self improvement or education.
1. Start a patreon or superchat, or some way to take donations
2. Tell them your target audience what they want to hear.
3. Look like you can do things they aspire to (have a lot of hoes around, dress decent, have a nice car)
4. Watch the money flow in
Literally everyone doing it big in that space is doing at least 3 of the 4 things listed if not all 4.
Shxts a finesse job and some of these guys actually have acolytes that will defend them like they are close friends.

I think some guys get bitter because they don't want the truth.
Most women are either with you for your looks or what you can do for them.
They don't love you for "you"
That's a tough pill to swallow for most guys.
Women have their equivalent of the red pill awakening but I don't think it's quite as harsh
