From a business standpoint it would be foolish to alienate SC like that.

They want to move it so they can get the parking revenue that they can't uptown.
If they're squabbling over that then they seem to be in it for the money and not winning, don't have deep pockets and likely won't foot the bill on the stadium.

After the move to NOLA, I still don’t think many have made peace with that. And then the issues with Bob Johnson with the bobcats and all the mudslinging that went on between the city questioning his business acumen and him shytting on Charlotte as a city fragmented the base ... it’s taken some time for the Buzz to build back a little ... but with all that happened although Carolina Hornets woulda captured a much larger base, Charlotte woulda likely given it the side eye after all it has been through with the hornets.
Hornets just need to win to sustain interest and landing a “big time” player would help to.
