No.

You can argue it encapsulates the “best” sound of hip hop…but even that’s just a You thing…I’d agree with you.

People who think that the “Rapper’s Delight” lighthearted, having fun sound is the “true” sound and may not be super fans of Troy-type songs won’t agree. I’ve heard people say “Bombs over Baghdad” is “real” hip hop, etc…

That “Troy” type energy is my favorite type of hip hop sound tho, that real head nod, lowkey kinda jazzy type bop…that’s why Illmatic is the best rap album ever easy for me…sure madd people disagree. My brother hated “93 til Infinity” and he’s older than me, lol, he thought they were corny so, by association, the song was corny. One of my favorite songs ever. 🤷🏽‍♂️, all subjective

For the first time in a long time I heard a modern beat that sound like straight up pure hip hop. It was:

From the classics its got to be this:

Dope samples flipped real well, cuts, drums that bump and a smooth flow with lyrics.

Its a clean & nice version of rap without the street essence, so it’s basically like suburban HipHop.

I think you're thinking of

Classic Hip Hop.

And I'd agree this is a good example.

What we have now, I call Contemporary Rap.

The difference is similar to the different between Classic Soul/R and B and the later stuff from the 80s/90s on. A clear dividing line between something like Earth Wind and Fire and Al B Sure.

Even Bombs over Baghdad is not solidly in the Classic Hip Hop lane. It's kind of a step away from the old school sound. I'd say Atlanta did a lot to pioneer the contemporary sound anyway, so it makes sense.

Bombs over Baghdad is a house record tho.
Ain't shyt about it based or welled in hiphop culture.
If it was. Then the jungle brothers would have still been honored.

as native after girl I'll house you.
