Very old.

I remember I had the Backstage VSH about the Hard Knock Tour. Dame was the one arguing against the Def Jam staff about the leather jackets with the Def Jam logo, where there were supposed to be the Roc-A- Fellas logo on the jackets, not the Def Jam logo.

On one hand Dame had valid points, it was very shady and treacherous how they were moving at Def Jam.

However, very few people in ANY industry can operate the way he was here on film.

There's a way to go about things and this isn't the way because you see now, fast forward to 2025, Dame is a joke in the industry and the only people who remember that yes, he was instrumental in the musical empire that was Rocafella Records, are hip hop heads like us and people who were around for it when it was in it's formation and at its peak.

Chances are if you're under 25 you don't know or give a fukk about Damon Dash.

It's clear as day what happened to Dame. He never thought he'd see the same people on the way down that he did on the way up. Now that those people are in positions of power they're not very eager to give him a helping hand. Relationship management and effective communication are powerful tools. Dame never learned that.
Which will be Akademiks ultimate fate

There’s truth to everything with this Rocafella shyt. But at the end of the day, Damon Dash is in the position that he is in today because of Damon Dash, period. The dude has zero control over his mouth, nor his wallet and it has been on display for over 25 years now.

People that age were toddlers when the Roc broke up so yeah you're right about that. I'm not even saying Dame was wrong about his vision of things, he may have been right in the long term but life is funny, Cam called his group the Diplomats; if Dame was a bit better at diplomacy he wouldn't be in the spot he is now.

The H
Def Jam got in Jigga's ear and told him he didn't need Dame

But Dame was the one putting on for the Roc when no one believed in the vision

Dame fought for the deals, Dame was battling label execs for proper resource allocation, Dame was the brains behind the actual business

Jigga was an artist and a decision-maker but Dame was overseeing the day to day...Biggs was just a figurehead

Fck Kev Lyles, Lyor Cohen and the rest of them for breaking up the Rocafella dynasty
Oh please so how did he end up broke?
And why hasn't he made another Hov yet?

Nah Dame was insufferable, them nikkas was already sick of Dame and were taking meetings without him.

Dame was the virus not Def Jam.

I think its all good when this Dame is in those rooms advocating for you. Yea its harsh but fck them crackas, they didnt a f about them artists.

Now eventually Dame shoulda grew outta this approach but hey, Harlem gon Harlem

:yeshrug:

Anyone in those rooms advocating for you in that manner may be good for you in the short term but, soon as your value diminishes they’ll discard all of you at the drop of a dime.

You can be stern and get your point across without acting like a man-baby. Dame’s a damaged human with hella unhealed childhood trauma that he’s refused to work on.

Those trauma’s can work in your favor in the short term to become successful but, at some point you have to address them or your empire will crumble.

I truly think Dame means well but, his pinned up unhealed issues makes him come off like a 60 year old angry, bitter, egoistic, narcissistic, harlem-based 6 year old that used to be poppin during the Clinton administration
