Audience got real quiet when he brought up the new story
Was all laughter and good times before that
Denzel is a real one, I didn't like the line he said in the equalizer 2 he's ranting to the young kid about not joining a gang or whatever and he says "....the white man didn't give you no shot...." And continues on...to this day I don't know why he said that line. It added nothing to the scene or the movie and could have been omitted. It was like a white supremacist dog whistle to me. Antoine Fuqua directed it but a white guy wrote the script, of course the script changes throughout the course of the process, I don't know if Denzel adlibbed that or if that was one of the concrete pieces of dialogue that needed to be in that monologue/scene but it rubbed me the wrong way.
A black movie presented to black audiences making the statement "the white man never gave us nothin, is not an excuse!" He brought that out of nowhere. There's no scenes where they are showcased being affected by white supremacy or white people at all..so why denzel chose to record that particular line for no reason is odd. Must have been trying to appeal to a much broader audience.
