I'll have a beer or 2 or drink in a social setting, but I've never been drunk before, never been high, and never had any desire to do either. Sold weed for a brief time and would have no qualms about doing it again given the right circumstances, but never smoked it.
Add the fact that some of my most painful experiences in life have been the direct result of people abusing alcohol, and I know that's definitely not a path I'm ever going to go down.
I get by by doing me. I just tell people I'm not a drinker and let the chips fall where they may. You definitely feel the awkwardness and condescension from people when you tell them you don't drink (particularly bytches) or smoke. Not much different than the looks or uninitiated convos I used to have when I used to be vegetarian. People feel as though you're internally judging them if you willfully abstain from any type of behavior they do freely, so they react accordingly. Insecurity is a beast sometimes.
