They are going defense now for McLean.
Predicting Alvarez getting embarrassed by PCA last nite is going to get him traded. Stearns doesn't tolerate his lack of intensity on defense that's why he got sent down.
No matter what happens expect major changes to the lineup next year.
That play was all on Holmes not covering home plate though. I don't think Alvarez is going anywhere.

Disagree, PCA didn't even look at the pitcher when deciding to run home. Remember he's been a major leaguer for a few seasons now and got sent down. You don't embarrass players like that you like.
He saw an unoccupied base and ran home. Even if you put some blame on Alvarez, we're talking about a 23 year old catcher with great offensive potential that right now took his demotion in stride, has an OPS over .800, is playing with 8 good fingers. Way too valuable of a position. Meanwhile we have a bunch of infielders older than him not showing as much taking up space. Getting rid of him makes an unnecessary hole in the lineup.

While I don’t disagree Stearns doesn’t appreciate Alvy’s lack of intensity on defense and his defensive lapses, I disagree 100% about the play last night.

I was there again last night with a perfect view of the play when it happened. Alvy had the ball in his hand ready to throw home and nobody was there. Watch the replay again and you’ll see Alvy has it ready to fire while PCA is barely past third base. No way he scores if Holmes was covering the plate.

When he decided to go home Alvarez's back is to the field and he is picking up the baseball. Plus he does a shytty job blocking the pitch in the first place.

He decided to go home because Holmes never moved and the play was right in front of him so he knew he could beat Holmes to the plate. If Holmes covers he would not have made it home.

Agreed he did a shytty job blocking the pitch but Holmes cost them that run

He's not in the lineup today and it isn't any day after a nite game situation. Why do you think that is?
They can get by with Torrens. He prevents runs and isn't an automatic out.

He didn't even look Holmes way when rounding 3B he is focused on Alcarez.

You don’t need to turn your head to see what’s directly in front of you, which is Holmes not budging while Alvarez is running to the backstop.

The fact you can watch the video, see Alvarez holding the ball, with PCA literally barely around 3rd base and NOT put this on Holmes is an impressive level of stubbornness lol

Talking about a guy who has back to back games with a 2 run homer playing with a torn ligament in his thumb and a broken pinkie.
