odd ass statement considering he's been talking about the current climate of society in his music and getting a cold shoulder for it.

people gonna have to admit they don't give a fukk bout the world around them at some point and change cuz whenever someone tries to talk sense they get shut out. only ignorance prevails.

the irony is that he's making music relevant to the times but not the "culture"

:dead:
fukking spot on with this post homie. They love when you talk about dumb shyt but the moment you tell people to wake up they give you the:snooze:

Hopefully Gucci slaps his head off when he sees him. I cannot stand TI, all them "im revolutionary but I love me some gangstas and drug lords and killas" type of rappers, annoying

Man it's some weirdos in here. Memphis didn't start trap music. UGK was using the 808 and talking dope selling before Eightball and MJG who were before 3-6. So no, the sound didn't originate from Memphis nor the content. Influenced.....definitely. Much respect to the Memphis music scene. We was all raised on that in the A.....but we was also raised on Texas shyt, Miami bass shyt and West Coast shyt. One big melting pot and different styles came from that. My nukka Gucci didn't start it and no Jeezy didn't create a lane for him because you can say he brought Jeezy to the forefront with the song Icy. Jeezy was getting ZERO radio play before that. T.I. Ain't start it....he coined the term. He basically just claimed some shyt that already existed. That's some Christopher Columbus shyt.

Talking about sellin dope has nothing to with it. Hustling & guns have been a staple in hip-hop since the beginning. If you can put up early UGK that predates 8Ball & MJG (who predate Ghetto Mafia), that sounds anything like that early-mid 90s Memphis sound that influences modern Trap. Matter of fact, from what I remember, early 90s UGK sounded like Geto Boyz stuff from around that time. Geto Boyz. If anything, I'd say Geto Boyz started Horrorcore.

TI gets the cold shoulder because hes been washed for YEARS..

you'd have a point if he was kickin knowledge in the midst of his prime material, but he wasn't.

wait until youre flabby to get all political brehs.

I'm done.

hes right tho.
most people knew jeezy from boyz n the hood initially. shoot, I think I might've saw his first def jam video with mannie fresh before "so icey" as well.
and yea, most people nationally, didn't take "so icey" seriously. Gucci was seen as a joke back then. one of the reasons why he was such an underground/regional act for so long

now, if yall are saying that "so icey" blew jeezy up locally before all of the other records, and the rest of the country just heard it late; I can see that.

Icy was released first. That was the introduction of Jeezy and Gucci. You can say folks didn't take Gucci serious, but the fact still remains that it introduced y'all to them both.

nah.

I knew jeezy from:
- dem boyz w/ boyz n the hood
- and then what w/ mannie fresh
- and the diplomats underground stuff that he appeared on.

all of this before I saw the "so icey" video.

that's why I said that locally/regionally, "so icey" may have been the introduction to jeezy, but nationally, it was the other way around.

and for the record, I loved "so icey". but most people on the national tip, looked at Gucci as a gimmick(EDIT: back then, at least). NOT MY OPINION. just the messenger breh. please don't shoot me.

Gucci is trash & aint shyt without Atlantic. He's being propped up by Atlantic's chess moves. They've been steadily feeding him hits using their machine and he's riding that wave.

Atlantic giving him hits or his hard work he put in independently to build bridges with all these artists giving him hit?

Icy was released nationally and played on BET before all of those. So basically you was even later than others

Jeezy also had "ova Here" featuring Bun B out at the time and the "Air Forces" song was tacked on to the end of the video. There was also a Jeezy feature on Fab's album too. All this is like late Fall to early winter 2004. The video for "Ova Here" might've been dropped early 2005 though.

it may have been on BET first, but all 3 of those videos were out at the same time, and "so icey" got the least amount of play.
so yea, theres tons of people around the country that likely saw "so icey" AFTER the other two. plus, BET was the ONLY channel playing "so icey"
and I may be wrong on this, but wasn't "so icey" on BET Uncut for a while before they started giving it spins on rap city?

and I think I heard him on the dipset stuff before I saw any of these videos.

I'm not denying being late. I wasn't down south when they were breaking thru, so I'm automatically gonna be late on them as opposed to you. I'm talking on a national scale.
