All of those that popularized (and later named) Gangsta Rap say that they got it from Philly. The sound slightly changed since then, but they still acknowledge the originator, even though it had no name. Trap Muzik is the Memphis sound. He didn't create a new sound, he didn't alter it, all he did was brand it.

So no, the sound didn't originate from Memphis nor the content. Influenced.....definitely. Much respect to the Memphis music scene. We was all raised on that in the A.....but we was also raised on Texas shyt, Miami bass shyt and West Coast shyt. One big melting pot and different styles came from that. My nukka Gucci didn't start it and no Jeezy didn't create a lane for him because you can say he brought Jeezy to the forefront with the song Icy. Jeezy was getting ZERO radio play before that. T.I. Ain't start it....he coined the term. He basically just claimed some shyt that already existed. That's some Christopher Columbus shyt.
