Nahhh I would rather listen to a Neptunes/JT album in modern time.

At least, Pharrel still got some sort of newness to him. Timb is so stuck in the 2000s with the "bounce" "wika wika wika" "wah wah" sound.
Pharrel produced Man of the woods I think we can chill on him unless he brings in Chad. I’m curious to see what Timbaland is cooking he usually brings his A-game with Justin. The first part of 20/20 was fire.

Funny you say that bc Im around the same age as Danjah and I went to VCU and most of my friends were from 757. This is around the time 757 felt like the center of the world (Pharrell, Timbo, AI, Vick, Plaxico, etc) and everybody from there claimed to know one of them, they auntie, they brother, etc :aicmon:

But my nggas were legit tight with him, went to HS with him, to the point they’d be deadass like ‘if Nate blows up we dropping out to be the entourage’. With a straight face

This might be why I dont fw Timbaland :sadcam:

I actually call him "Nate", lol.

He moved in with Tim when they first started working, then I think he moved out to Cali after that, and then back to Miami. I remember he was working in like Red Lobster or some sh*t when he met Tim, lol. He's a mad humble dude though. Still super chill and just all about the music.

Truth.

He does a lot of stuff solo. But Chad said he's been there with him on tracks, but he wasn't credited or paid for them. I know right now, Pharrell said he's working on new music for N.E.R.D., but he didn't say anything about Chad being there too. So who knows what the deal with them as a group anymore? That Kelis situation shed a lot of light on how certain people weren't getting paid.

Pharrell had to pay like $2.9M for that Marvin Gaye situation. So he's been working like a madman since. Selling his cars and jewelry. Making mad music and taking jobs in fashion. I imagine because he took a crazy hit in that other lawsuit.

I wouldn't think P is struggling financially tho. Especially with songs like Happy.

And that $2.9 would've been paid by the label, right?

Nah, the only people that had to pay, were Pharrell and Robin Thicke.

Their respective publishing companies were the only two named in the judgement. So the labels and T.I. weren't found to have been responsible for any of that. So the final cost of like $5.3M just got cut down the middle for Pharrell and Thicke to pay. And the Gaye family also walked away with 1/2 of the royalties for the song moving forward. So they'll still keep getting paid.

I always thought that was a crazy situation. It only had the feel/sound of the track, it really doesn't sound like it melodically, lyrically etc. Gaye's family tried pulling the same shyt with Ed Sheeran, as much as I hate dudes music, I'm glad they lost. They really think they should get paid forever off a guy that died 40 years ago, if anybody shows any sign of influence.

Ed Sheeran always has lawsuits for biting. He had to admit to stealing that TLC joint that time, so that they could get writing credit on his song. This is a whole thing now.

With the "Blurred Lines" thing, they brought in all these music scientists who analyzed the songs and all kinds of wild sh*t, lol. I could hear similarities, but subtle ones. Pharrell does that a lot though, but he usually credits the oldies he pulls from. This one was a costly mistake.
