Nah, it's a coincidence because there were PG's similar to the ones today before handchecking, what physical advantages did someone like Kevin Johnson have over PGs today? He was able to survive and thrive with handchecking. Things happen in cycles, PGs are up now, and soon SGs or SFs will be too.
There's no rational explanation for PGs getting a big bump like this and SG's just completely falling off the face of the earth. You can't attribute that to handchecking because SG's should have improved a lot as well, when they haven't, they've actually gotten worse.

We lost Roy to injuries, Beal has been hampered by injuries, Eric Gordon done in by injuries, and Tyreke(although he never really had superstar potential) has also been held down by injuries.
I mean, aside from Roy, none of these guys were real franchise guys(although a case can be made for Gordon), but the fall of SG's can be attributed to all the unfortunate injuries that has happened to the top SGs over the years.
And I still think hand checking has to do with the rise of PG's. The difference between PG's from today and the ones from the past is that a lot of the ones today also struggle a lot defensively, which can cause a lot of high scoring matchups between them(if they're guarding one another). Meanwhile a lot of the best perimeter defenders are shooting guards.

Roy was the only truly high level SG that you named and you said it yourself, so why mention the others? The SG spot fell off a cliff, and most of the SF's in the league can't create for themselves at a high level, save for a few.
Handchecking isn't what caused the rise of the PG, it's the PF being able to shoot now that is what really caused it. Handchecking isn't going to stop these guys from turning the corner, because it didn't stop them from doing it before. What's happening now is that if you close out hard on the PG, he'll just release it to the PF who will hit the jumper, roll to the rim or pass to the dude standing in the corner waiting to shoot a 3. If you don't close out and he gets a shot at the rim we have a lot of PGs that can finish in the lane, mainly because one of the bigs had to come up to guard on the screen.

Because 7 footers standing around shooting 3's is European basketball. Americans used to kick the shyt out of those dudes. In fact those guys didn't use to be good enough to play in the NBA. Now those trashy dudes are stars in the NBA.

No the talent level is down, because those moafukkas were never good enough to play in this league before now. They were straight garbage. They had 7 footers shooting 3's, but they couldn't post up on the blocks or rebound. They don't like physical play nor do they play much defense. Americans used to run the Europeans right out of their own buildings and that is even when the Europeans were using their pros against the American amateur players.
