All the wack shiit that dropped lately, and you make a thread to criticize Nas. Nas is not even championed by anyone, so your efforts seem in vein.

I'm just pulling shyt out of my ass here so this probably doesn't make any sense

"Time is Illmatic" - could mean like it's time for the era of Illmatic. Like "it's miller time," "it's illmatic time." It's time for illmatic.
Maybe he's trying to say Illmatic is encompassing much like time is. Maybe he's trying to say Illmatic is timeless.

Also it's kind of interesting reading the full line - "time is illmatic, keep static like wool fabric"
The words time and static are somewhat antonyms - time is continual change and progress of events, whereas the word static involves the lack of change or movement. It's like he's saying Illmatic (his album) is eternal (time) and unchanging (static).

even tho i disagree with what u said atleast u made an effort so. but i think he meant "static" as in "beef", that was the slang for it around that time and it will explain the next line "Pack a four-matic that crack your whole cabbage".

Illmatic is the essence or in simplest terms greatness (but it's second meaning as being a description of Nas' own lyrics is evident in its use through many of his earlier records). Static means giving beef to those that don't respect you. Use this understanding when interpreting the line. It makes perfect sense - he is telling all of his haters that he is making them look like fools.

"Sooner or later we'll all see who the prophet is..."

And get this cornball out of here and take out "Intellectual" from your screen name simpleton.

I thought the line meant that times are hard (ill)...and "matic" works because it sets up the rest of what he said "Keept static like wool fabric..."

Could also mean what the guy above me said, that it's pretty much the Illmatic era (Nas coming into his own as an MC), and that Nas is out for his.

Both interpretations work.

It really isn't that hard to understand really. This is a troll thread...
