they're the opening bars of the verse in question. you really have to listen to the whole verse to get the "time is illmatic" line

i know what verse it is, i know the whole verse and probably can explain what he meant better than yall are failing to do

nikkas is simple

you took 3 words out out of one bar and made a thread about it asking for it's meaning

If this nikka has any "intelligence" or knowledge on how rap lyrics how and the basic understanding of reading comprehension using the context of words (in this case, lyrics)

he would know this, same goes for the rest of you. Like many have said, it's not fukking rocket science

Ima give you somewhat of a pass because you admitted you were pullin shyt out your ass... i respect nikkaz keepin it real...

but the bolded... this nikka is a jr high dropout, that cant write well... do you think he knows what the word "static" means in the sense you used it? Nah, he was talkin about not using Downy dryer sheets.

Lol can't write well? Usrs? :snoop::what::why::rudy:

inflicting, reminiscing, prosperous, plateau, backtrack, essence, abundance, versatile, dwelling, remanded, hemmed, intellectual, matinee, indented, formality, physiology, manifested, prognosis, petro, vex, prevail, prosper, reinforce, decipher, riffing, commissary, civilized, et cetera, heed, stimulate, parlayer, dweller, brutalizer, de-sizer, conflict, clientele, magnetize, trifle, eavesdrop

I'm not saying that's all profound vocab, but those are all words he used on Illmatic. You might be right about that not being the intended use of static, but let's not act like the dude spoke with kindergarten level english.

I went to college and even I had to look up words like commisary and parlayer.

Plus I've heard about a lot of rappers reading through the dictionary. I know eminem did it.

I did explain it. asking to explain this one line on it's own is a prime example of "not seeing the forest for the trees". the title of the song is "Life's a bytch". the hook, "life's a bytch and then you die, that's why we get high, cause you never know when you're gonna go". Nas' verse is all about how he made it 20 after all the crazy shyt he used to do. you think back on that kind of shyt, and it's only "time" that separates you from it. maybe "time" didn't treat some of your peeps well. maybe you switched your motto, instead of saying "fukk tomorrow"... time is illmatic...

This thread will do nothing but back fire on the idiots who are too dumb to understand simple lyrics like this. nikkas already said what they thought it meant, tell us what you think it means nikka

Let me stop using that word, but the more I read your posting the more you come off as a dude whiter than my refrigerator who thinks he gets hip hop and listens to Drake. You're in the wrong place, hiding behind that screen of yours, trolling your way in the internet.

You're not really up for debating lyrics, you ain't bout that life

Sorry Nas didn't

I find it a bit funny..alot of these Nas stans accusing @intilectual recipricol of needing to smarten up when its u guys who lack the focus of proper structure and writing

Early Nas many a time would just "put words just to match"

Thats not a talent

Any mufcka with a dictionary open can do that

Talent lies in creating concepts and structuring words in ways that provide clarity and maintaining cleverness

So aspects liek metaphors, double entendres, wordplay, etc..used in way that makes sense without seeming to forced

Which is what made Jay's writing on RD overall better than Nas' on illmatic

Neega had a dictionary and used the words he thought were "deep" and "profound" and could impress simple minds like you.
