I think its more about access and familiarity. White dudes see their pops playing the game. They are way more likely to be working with people that look like them.

Black folks have to deal with a (totally valid) distrust of white folks and that two way lack of familarity. If you the first in your family to have a degree and work in certain environments all you got to go on is media and what other folks say. That stuff can easily poison your mind. Thats why access is so important.
I see your point.

Like Jay said,
“I’m trynna give yall the game for 9.99”

Even my OG post works for most orgs—church, non profits, etc

If you want to work harder then work harder and put on a kool-aid smile but it has little to do with making money. To make money you have to provide real value, it has nothing to do with stroking your boss ego. Your only advantage in life is to be your true authentic self.

The workplace is not like high school instead it’s like the African Savannah. A laughing Hyena will never be a Lion. The people in charge need to respect you no matter what they feel inside. If anything just be kind to people but don’t placate to their insecurities by always being a likable push over.

Ok broke Coli nikka, how do I provide value?
I remember when I was at a piano store buying something for my kid and I overheard the general manager and a female employee discussing if she deserved a raise. The girl used her leverage by stating that she has a large following on her podcast about playing piano and she sends a lot of referrals to the store and that will stop asap. The manager instantly started copping pleas and begging her not to pull the plug. Forget the raise she doubled her income and became the customer service manager that day. That’s how you use leverage to get to the money.
I see what you mean btw… I also believe there are multiple paths.

Be cool and build a relationship with the TOP boss or the person directly under them

Don't waste your time talking to middle management. Talking to them will do the exact opposite effect

Being likable is key. Sounds easy, but many fail at it.

It will always be someone talking shyt behind your back. Sometimes it'll be people higher than you, sometimes lower.

Depending on your industry and company, the adage of the "job is 80% people, 20% technical" isn't accurate.

Know your limits. Don't volunteer to lead project because of high visibility. Even if you think you have the work ethic and aptitude, it takes more than that. That's where being likable is key. People are more willing to work hard for someone that doesn't come off as a leech. Even if career climber is your goal, learn how to downplay it.

Know your 1st level manager and understand their management style. That'll give you more freedom. Understand that it's your job to make them look good. All the donuts and Starbucks don't mean shyt if they're reporting a delay in the timeline to their manager.

If you're new, understand how the company conducts layoffs. Every large corporation isn't the same. It'll keep you aware when it's your turn under the microscope.

Don't pick a career that you are passionate about, pick a career that you have talent in.
My hot take is that you can’t be talented at a skill, career without some degree of passion. It’s a necessary prerequisite but it’s not sufficient. I do agree that it’s overrated to want your career to be solely what you love rather than what you’re good at. Example - - folks that love music but suck at it.

Great book on this topic for anyone interested:

so basically she marketed herself and used her network as leverage.

basically what the op is espousing.
in and outside of the workplace.

everything else you said is naiveté.

The point wasn’t really about her. The point is to come to the table with a bargaining chip that holds value, that permanent smile and fake small talk is for scraps.
