What they did to roh and njpw being hand waived while still talking about how wwf killed the (racist redneck) Territory days is AMAZING lol
Was Tony Khan paying TV stations to drop ROH and NJPW's programming and air them instead? Was Tony Khan threatening cable companies that he'd pull AEW's pay-per-views if they aired ROH and NJPW, and when cable companies told him to never pull a stunt like that again he aired a special against their PPV when he didn't get his way? Was Tony Khan threatening venues if they hosted ROH and NJPW shows? Did he run shows in the same towns drectly against ROH and NJPW shows? Did he threaten to by out ROH and NJPW offices? Was he giving wrestlers signing bonuses if they left ROH and NJPW without giving notice?

Oh, he didn't do any of that shyt? Then what are we talking about?

There's a big difference between signing available talent and directly interfering with a company's ability to draw money. Companies are gonna spend what they can spend and talent is gonna take what they can.

Oh lemme guess, AEW was in the wrong from the beginning because they put Dynamite on NXT's night? NXT, the on-demand web series that only got a fraction of its viewership from the live premiere:mjgrin:

Alright,

  • so why was ROH a dead brand? What made them fall off specifically, from their peak during the indy boom???
  • What caused the NJPW/ROH show and the projected card to fall apart???
  • why couldn't they land a quality TV deal? (its related to the above answers, not just sinclair being cheap?
  • They signed Okada, the young bucks, Kenny Omega, Adam Page, Cody, etc...all of which (other than okada) were also ROH stars...probably related to the first two Bullet points.
  • WWE does what wwe does....they sign great talent from anywhere with no regard...i know this...but oddly AEW has to be the babyface with every signing...
Look, AEW plucked the best indy talent and guys from ROH and top guys from NJPW under the guise of partnership, hurting their roster. They were doing the same thing to AAA and villified Konnan for calling out their fukkery. This is what the wrestling industry does or is but for some reason it's handwaived for AEW. PWG, DEFY, CZW, ROH, MLW, were all flourishing right before AEW...why is that??

just admit that is what happened without being compelled to make AEW a conquering hero.

Breh, I just explained why.... I knew you were going to say "they signed the Young Bucks" but according to y'all these little flippy mfers ain't ever been a draw so why should it matter? ROH lost Danielson and Punk throughout the years. They lost Samoa Joe and Austin Aries. They lost way more talented and popular wrestlers before AEW ever existed.

You say ROH was flourishing and that's simply not true following the MSG show. They put the belt on Taven and it was a disaster but even that's not what actually killed them...

I explained what killed them. It has everything to do with Sinclair having financial issues, buying up RSNs, failing with those and the failed merger attempt with Tribune...etc.. they were in a lot of financial debt, they were filing for bankruptcy and this is a parent company that never put ROH at the forefront. They never put them on the RSNs. They always had them in funky timeslots. They didn't care about the company and they sure as hell were not going to invest into it after COVID and after they were headed into bankruptcy.

And @Ed MOTHERfukkING G let's make this clear, I don't blame you for hating AEW or hating their product, you were clear from day 1 that you didn't like the company and you didn't want them to succeed. You said you hated everything about it, you hated flippy shyt, etc... I remember our conversations well.

The only reason why you want to paint them as being on equal footing with the fukkery as WWE is because you want to be able to say "see! they ain't shyt either!" and I don't know if that's because WWE-only fans want to feel better about the product they watch or what but that's always how it comes off. I don't really care, I watch more WWE to this day than any other promotion but what I will say is that no company in history has ever equaled WWE with the fukk shyt that they are always on and TKO has brought that to new heights.

Like if this nikka wants to say AEW killed ROH...by his logic NXT killed ROH long before AEW came around. They were a zombie, I 100% remember people talking about them being a shell of themselves in 2017/18 that was being propped up by NJPW/Bullet Club

You usually don't care about other people opinions in the section for the most care. I only kept the weekly thread a thing because it was me and @PharaohAtem whom were make the threads together and took over the PPV threads when he lost access to his account.

What? :heh:

Only people I don’t care to read opinions from are the typical weirdos who wanna stooge or act like marks. Like an argument going on in here about NJPW and ROH; same ol bullshyt. I never got mark vibes from you.

Breh, I touched on Nakamura and AJ styles signing to WWE/NXT which hurt NJPW BADLY... but for some reason that's not brought up in here? They were the two biggest stars in the company outside of Okada and Tanahashi at the time. Kenny Omega was in the midcard when that was going down.

NXT raided every indy company there was AND they also completely killed the UK scene. They bought up every single wrestler from the UK/Scotland/Ireland, made it look like they were going to do partnerships and it never actually happened. Progress never recovered. ICW never recovered.

Do we remember Triple H at the time saying he wanted to do the same thing in Japan? Because I do... It just never happened because he ran out of money and resources after NXT UK was a failure.

@TheAlbionist can speak to this... the UK scene was decimated by WWE.

Here's a list of other names that Triple H brought in from the indy scene: Kevin Owens, Bobby Roode, Austin Aries, Adam Cole, Roderick Strong, I could go on and on..

The bucks mattered to ROH. And I knew you were gonna mention taven...I meant before that and leading to the show.

And, I don't like AEW because I don't like that type of wrestling, that's all, and yeah, I've been honest about that.

We've had this convo but the buildup to AEW parallels the buildup to rock n wrestling in many ways that get ignored, it bothers me is all.

If anything, all these moves by WWE might spark another "us vs them" movement that galvanized the first 2 and a half years of AEW and fizzled by 2023.

The best thing WWE did was let AEW alone and let them have their issues. Forcing stuff now when WWE's product is being questioned more than in the past 4-5 years sounds like a dumb move.

Using TNA as a proxy is :dead: also, like why does TNA have to pay the price for TKO's arrogance :laff:

Not sure what that means, but some of you think you know me but don’t.

Whatever the case, no one should be taking play fighting opinions too seriously. I’ve had people call me racist shyt, threatened my life, involved my family, labeled with false accusations, and stay getting harassed from obsessed weirdos.

All because opinions over men fighting in underwear in a predetermined, entertainment field. Add end the endless bullshyt of stooging and idiocy, “Talking” wrestling nowadays has become slowly disinteresting.
