And then the Rock was getting standing ovations as heel Rock against Austin, Goldberg, and Hogan 6 months later. And Shawn was getting booed out against a MURDERER at WM XX...booed out against Edge, a guy spat on for cheating and sneaking around with Matt Hardy's girlfriend...was getting booed out for Hornswoggle in New York City like a str8 jobber even with his DX banner as protection...came into the Royal Rumble 2005, got no sold, and the crowd chanted for Eddie as he headed to the back instead

I'm talking strictly as a main eventer, for over a decade TNA couldn't get AJ to the level AJ is at right now in NJPW, while AJ was younger and in his athletic prime in TNA. What did those titles amount to when he was always overshadowed by Kurt Angle, Christian, RVD, Jeff Hardy, etc. or whatever ex WWE guy TNA prioritized over AJ since they were seen as bigger stars than him? Even when TNA tried to make AJ "the guy", as a face he wasn't the greatest promo, and that is putting it lightly and as a heel, he was overshadowed by being Christian's sidekick or with Ric Flair doing a terrible Flair gimmick. He has been one of the best wrestlers of his generation, might make the case that he has been since 2002, but NJPW AJ>>>TNA AJ and its not even close imo. 05 AJ in TNA you can say is better than NJPW AJ, but I just prefer his more technical wrestling style mixed with just only a couple of flying moves mixed in AJ more. 
Without TNA giving him that platform there would be no NJPW AJ. Sure he had some goofy gimmicks but for the most part he always treated as one of the serious top guys in the company. He's better now because he's had 18 years in the business. He would be great no matter where he was.
