Lemme just note that as a kid who did do both gifted and honors courses throughout my middleschool and highschool career , it think they were benefitial. There were more in depth conversations and studying methods we could cover in a smart classroom that the general population could not keep up with. Furthermore, if we are being honest , these courses had zero class clowns in them so it was easier for us to focus.

For example, in my senior year i recall that the general english Literature class was doing book reports with multiple choice questions on the Eragon and Hunger Games books. :russ:

Meanwhile the honors course was doing 4 page essays on literary difficult and complex books like Chinua Achebe's "things fall apart" and Jane Austen's works. THis was a Huge difference in coursework that would honestly fail 75% of the general population.:ohhh:

I think automatic enrollment in upper division courses and a 3 week trail period of the coursework at the honors level wouldve been more equitable than just bushing the entire honors catalogue.

As a side note, i know the college bound kids had to be a litlle angry cause many colleges look for that honors level coursework when trying to admit freshmen. THis is probably the true reason parents are heated.

I don't think enough black people understand how offensive it is when they do shyt like this or purposely lower test scores or say shyt like "black kids learn differently":francis:
I'd want my child to take AP and Honors, this is just some slick, passive aggressive shyt that's only going to discourage the Black kids who DO want to learn "advanced" topics early on :francis:

They're just baiting at this point...

from reading the article , i think this was intended to target hispanics. Because in the article , black people were 14% of enrolled and 15% of the general population. The margin of error here is 1% in etither direction so we are actually performing at par.

its the hispanics who had a 15percent difference between enrollment and the general population. And of course the Asians with the above percentage representation too.

I feel this is all intentional. It is not to make the children or parents feel better about themselves, it is to make sure a non-competitive underclass is continuously produced.

A smart parent will remove their child from that school system. Perhaps send them to a family member who is in a better school system, home school, or private school. Which ever option is possible for your child, because leaving your child in a school system like that will make them uncompetitive and ill prepared for adulthood.

Either they're slowing down the smarter kids or "honors classes" were never worth shyt. Either is awful.

I lowkey suspect they're just trying to save money and are using black students as an excuse.

This feels like an eventual path to eliminating AP classes and IB programs in high school. That puts talented students at a competitive disadvantage for admissions to elite universities
There is a deliberate attempt to destroy public education across the country. They want parents with bright kids to pay for private or homeschool their children.

The main difference between people who learn faster or better than others is interest.

Some people see education as a chore. One they avoid as much as they can and one that does not please them during the process.

Some people are interested in learning. Some people enjoy learning.

Let us please allow for the kids who treat school like jail to be in one location and the kids who truly want to learn as much as they can in another location.

You wouldn't take all the people out of the theater for a romantic comedy and force them to watch a brutal horror movie.

Let these kids over here do their thing and let the others do what they like too.
As someone who was often tested as gifted early, I can attest to this. I had no interest in math (and this physics/chemistry) at the high school level and it showed.

At basically a STEM high school at that :francis:

Black students are equally represented in general and honors curriculum though. It's for the Hispanic student body and in California that's no surprise.

They are dumbing down everyone. If you got kids go look at their work. It's a hell of a lot easier than what we had. Pretty soo. It's going to be only the private school kids who get a challenging education. Just make all schools private and give parents vouchers to choose which school to go to. Make sure schools meet certain standards. It's OK to be better and smarter than others. We are not equal. What makes me mad is that this hurts bright black students the most.
